How Should I React To This E-Mail??
The following e-mail was sent out to everybody who works in my building:

All

I would like to invite you all out March 19th to (name of restaurant) on (name of street) starting at 4 pm for my going away gig...I figured that I would just pick the place and whoever wants to show up can sit around and drink a few beers with me...hope to see you all there...

Bill

To me, it sounds like this guy wants to make sure he's getting a going-away party by naming the time and place.

I don't drink, so I wasn't planning on attending anyway. But what would YOU do if you got a message liek this???

like to stop by and have a few beers with him on his last day at work. Perhaps he sent the message to everyone to be sure he didn't exclude anyone. If I liked him, I'd stop by, tell him how nice it was to work with him, and leave. If I didn't like him, I'd hit delete and go home after work.

3. Sounds pretty casual...
If you like the guy, go. If not, wish him well and find something else to do that night.

8. One Place I Worked Back in the '70s...
...we'd have going-away lunches or after-work parties any time someone left to go to another company. When Cliff (one of the inspectors in Incoming Inspection) gave his notice, his co-workers planned an after-work get-together, but wouldn't tell Cliff where it was being held.

4. I wouldn't go either
...especially if the list is a bunch of people he has a gripe with. Those "last day" thing get ugly. ;)

7. If it was someone I know & like, I'd invite him to lunch, one-on-one
my treat. If it was someone I barely know, I wouldn't go.

Bill is the guy in IT who always seemed to be too busy to deal with your computer problem right now.....

Does that change anyone's answer?????

12. At one place I worked at
many years ago, a singularly unpopular co-worker transferred to another job site. When she left for the day, the rest of us broke open a bottle of champagne in celebration of her departure.
