5. I'll admit that I haven't
I'm going by just what I've heard on the radio. I guess they could have been punk at one time, but they certainly aren't now.

7. If you look a bit further at them I bet you come to a different conclusion
The older stuff is not quite so Poppy and even some of the newer stuff is not what it is made out to be.

21. Big difference
punk isn't just a sound it's an attitude, and Blink aint got it.NOFX,while being 3 chord punk, simply runs laps around Blinky.

16. Erm. NOFX and Anti-Flag is what teenyboppers listen to...
...when they wanna be called "punks."

Punk includes, but is not limited to, Wire, Suicide, Alternative TV, all those bands everyone listens to (like the Clash, the Pistols, the Damned), Rocket from the Tombs (and their postcedent, the Dead Boys), and the like.

NOFX and Anti-Flag is like Agnostic Front. Poop.

And no, Blink 182 is not "punk." I'm not sure what they are, but it sure as shit ain't punk.

19. The best punk band I've heard in the last decade
is Melt Banana (now touring with Fantomas).I've haven't heard a band that even comes close to MB since the Dead Kennedys.Musically even more chaotic than DK(yet still catchy as the plague),lyrically just as good and sometimes better (and that's saying something).

A piece of a review from Amazon;

Without a doubt Melt-Banana are a true pioneering force in the world of hardcore music. Sounding like practically no one else in the rock world and showing genuine musical genius at every turn, this band are nothing short of mind blowing.
After the success of 'Teeny Shiny' (their last masterpiece) it would have been hard to guess which direction the band would move next. If anything they've got more accessible still on this album. Some purists may argue that the band have lost their edge, but these people could not be more wrong. All the things that made the previous albums brilliant - ballistic rhythm section, seemingly chaotic time-signatures, frantic vocals, the most mind-blowing guitar acrobatics EVER committed to Compact Disc - are present and correct on this new outing. It is just that this time the tracks are longer, more considered and generally better structured than before. This is also the most varied MxBx album so far, with the usual hardcore blasts interspersed with quiet build ups, strangely danceable interludes and (SHOCK) singing!!! Yes, the mighty Yasuko actually sings - in a lovely sweet poppy voice - on the brilliant penultimate track.
Special mention must also be given to Agata, the band's guitarist. As I previously mentioned, NO ONE has ever played guitar like this before. When not flinging out manic riffs, he is wrenching the most amazing noises from his instrument.

22. On the new Probot CD
the singer for DRI does a great tune.A great Voivod tune on there as well.Hell, even the Motorhead tune is way closer to their early stuff like Overkill and Ace of Spades.

And I miss Fear ("this next song is about politics...ok,it's really about beer!") :)

I dont mind NOFX at all,but you're spot on about them.

kinda weird - they were as pre-fabricated and marketed as Britney

36. That's not entirely true.
McLaren was all about marketing. Rotten was all about fucking up Malcolm's plans. Sid was all about destroying himself with a groupie that made Courtney Love seem intelligent by comparison. And Cook & Jones didn't give a shit one way or the other. Altogether it made an interesting mix. But one that was doomed to a short life :(

Read Johnny's book (ROTTEN: No Irish. No Blacks. No Dogs) if you can find it.

And for the record, bands like Blink 182, Good Charlotte, and Sum 41 make us old school punks :puke:

Edited on Tue Mar-16-04 01:33 AM by Djinn
interesting-ish, but mainly another grasp at attention from an aging has-been (admittedly not as bad as his recent stint on a trashy UK reality TV show) as for Nancy Spungen - she was many things stupid wasn't one of them. And Sid stabbed her to death - destroying himself came after destroying her. She got blamed for everything of course, but like the hippies before them, the misogyny in the wider community wasn't non existent in the punk scene.

If Malcolm truly was the svengali - then the comparison to Britney is even more relevant

Edit: Oh, and Yes Blink 182 totally suck

Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 10:13 PM by mvd
More pop than punk, so I voted pop. The best at pop-punk include Avril Lavigne and Green Day (big fan of both,) but Blink 182 is one of my guilty pleasures. I like good pop-punk more than much of the pure punk, but that's me.

31. You don't hear a big difference between "I want to be sedated" and...
"All the small things." It first I was a pop but now that I think about it... they are coming much closer to the punk side.
