Freepers seem Stupider than Dems
Sometimes I go to their sites and look at their postings. As a group, they seem really ignorant and illiterate. Am I just being biased or do they seem not as... smart as the rest of us?

1. Yes, we are superior intellectually
that's why we're dems. We're too educated to buy the other side's crap.

4. That's why getting repukes to properly fund education
is like pulling teeth. They know that educated repukes vote Democratic.

5. I think they're just badly informed, and a little brainwashed
Not all conservatives are that way, but many of them have the same logic as the bumper stickers on the back of their car. Issues get simplified to the point of being dumbed-down, and critical thinking is not encouraged.

Imagine this scenario: the only news outlet available to Americans is fos news; the only opinions in media are that of conservatives like rush, coulter, hannity, etc. I think people would start to adopt a lot of conservative ideology just out of sheer ignorance. When the only facts you are given are designed to make you think a certain way, well, it works. It's called propoganda, and it's a tried and true method that's been in use for a long, long time. That's why freepers think Clinton could have had osama bin laden but let him go, one of the biggest lies they ever put in writing. It's easily disputed, but almost every single one of them believes it like gospel.

I think if they just opened up their minds and let themselves think, stop parroting their talking heads, and let themselves disagree with their party line, they'd find their brains eventually.

8. If they were better informed, they wouldn't.
Instead they believe everything that fox spoon feeds them. Sheep are more independent and free thinking.

7. There are probably different groups
One group, allbeit a small one, are intelligent manipulators who play on people's fears and prejudices. They tend to be wealthy, getting wealthier, and care little for what happens to the 'little folk'....even their own followers. They are liars and crooks. Sneaky little weasels.
Then there is a large group of followers....undereducated, full of fear, and looking to feel superior to someone....anyone. Their leaders feed this need, and they eat it right up. It is the lazy way...no thinking necessary.

That is my broad generalization anyway....

Really. Compare the grammar/spelling of the average DUer to that of the average Freeper, and you'll have your answer. That's not to say that FR doesn't have it's share of folks who have a good command of the language, nor am I saying that DU doesn't have it's share of (how shall I put this?) people who could use some gentle tutoring.....

Aside from the occasional mangling of the English language, I'd have to say that DUers are more easily able to express their points of view in a non-insane manner. Of course, I could be biased.

Yeah, of course I'm biased. Forget the diplomacy of my above wording. We're much smarter than those fuck-heads. No doubt.

13. What can I say?
I'll defend my own every time. Spelling/grammar errors are NOT always a reliable indicator of intelligence.

Many of the posts at FR look as though they were penned by twelve year olds, regardless of the fact that they don't contain errors. It's a question of being able to convey a rational thought based on factual information.

They (mostly) can't do it. We (mostly) can.

:D

11. I know not "seems."
Seems, madam(sir)! nay, it is; I know not “seems.”

And just low down rabid. They 'seem' to believe that they are part of some team. They're useful idiots. Perhaps, someday, in the sick vision of PNAC, they'll be cannon fodder.

cheers! :toast:

14. They are more arrogant also
It seems to me that when you try to tell them something with some facts behind it they just ignore this information even when they don't dispute the fact. They think they are better than other people in this country and deserve more than everyone else. Shouldn't we be trying to make it better for everyone not just a few (like the rich).

Vote b*sh and the rest of the right wing nuts out at all levels of government.

15. Go to the national news boards
. . . and read the GOPer posts. MANY of the posters are semiliterate in the sense of having dismally poor reading comprehension; they have still poorer reasoning and logical inference abilities; and not a few of them seem outright delusional: they read things that simply are not there in your post that they are responding to or in the text of some link they are providing. I blame their homeschooling (done to avoid contact with all those that differ).

16. they're just not as smart as the rest of us
I think the same. I have a dear friend who is pretty active in rightwing causes, and sweet as he can be in person, he is just not intellectually on my level. You can't really talk politics -- that is a given -- but there are many other areas where he is really struggling to keep up with the conversation. His lack of science knowledge is breath-taking. I've probably told the story before, but he was 40 before he heard of such a thing as the earth's tilting on its axis.

17. Its not just a question of intellect
The sad fact is that they want to believe that they are somehow victims. They're being taxed to death to support welfare queens, their culture is being eroded, etc, etc. Even the smart ones have purposely erected walls to prevent facts from penetrating their dogma of victimhood.

In regards to their spelling and grammar, I think they take almost a Luddite-like pride in ignorance. After all: Intellectual = Liberal.

18. Here's an interesting snippet of an article from the Duke Chronicle
-snip-
"We try to hire the best, smartest people available," Brandon said of his philosophy hires. "If, as John Stuart Mill said, stupid people are generally conservative, then there are lots of conservatives we will never hire.

"Mill's analysis may go some way towards explaining the power of the Republican party in our society and the relative scarcity of Republicans in academia. Players in the NBA tend to be taller than average. There is a good reason for this. Members of academia tend to be a bit smarter than average. There is a good reason for this too."
