Poll question: The year is 1991 and DU is abuzz
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 07:45 PM by Catch22Dem
Let's play pretend. Let's say this is 1991 and the rest of the 90s have not happened. Let's pretend that most of us know Bill Clinton about as well as we all knew Howard Dean 18 months ago. Not well. Now, I have 2 questions. First, who would you be supporting right now. Second, who would be the most popular here on DU.

REMEMBER, you're not allowed to use the benefit of hindsight here!!!

4. I don't have to speculate
I watched Clinton's announcement speech and said "This is the guy who can beat Bush", and backed him all the way.

5. I was supporting Tom Harkin
Didn't know enough about Clinton this early if I remember correctly -- knew he got some jobs brought to Arkansas but that's about all I did know.

I don't have a clue who would have been DU's choice then.

6. Harkin, I'm pretty sure
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 08:10 PM by Piperay
that is who I was supporting at the time. Living in CA I have learned not to get to committed because they are usually out by Primary time, so I can't even remember for sure who my pick was.

the nomination.

I think DU would have been split between Harkin and Tsongas, with smaller contingents for Wilder, Brown, Kerrey and Clinton (in that order)

9. I remember voting for Tsongas in the primaries
I can't honestly remember why now. It was my first primary vote. I also liked Jerry Brown as well. I was more neutral about Clinton until it looked like he'd have the nomination wrapped up (kind of like this year too :7 ).

10. Not sure...
I was only 6 when the 1992 election was going on. I don't recognize anyone's name but Clinton... and possibly Tom Harkin...

14. I was 11 and a Tsongas supporter
I was an eleven year old deficit hawk who thought that there was no way in the world Clinton could afford his middle class tax cut, so I supported Tsongas, although I really didn't know much about most of the other minor candidates.

if it were 1988, I'd be pulling for Paul Simon all the way. What a guy. My personal hero. Make a 1988 poll!
