Had to rip my freeper brother-in-law a new one (long)
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 08:33 PM by ZombyWoof
Last night I forwarded Will Pitt's new article on Spain to friends and family, not only because it was a great piece, but because having once lived in Spain, and being rather proud of helping Will out, it seemed a natural thing to do. I know my sister and brother-in-law don't see eye-to-eye with me, but they should know the reason I share these things is because I took part, not because I am trying to push my views.

I rarely write about my family or personal life on here. But I have to share this with you. My freeper-ass brother-in-law, after congratulating me on helping out with the piece, proceeds to tell me that he thinks Spain helped the terrorists with the election. He admmitted he is a right-wing nut. But he was civil (and honest with that last point), and for that I was grateful.

So I wrote him back, told I am glad we can disagree civilly, and why I felt his analogy that Spain is appeasing terrorists being the same thing as the Brits appeasing Hiter is flawed. But mostly it was just about me and where I am coming from in the reply, and not much devoted to his argument.

And I was as civil with my reply as he was with his. I thought it was a rather nice exchange.

But you can always count on a freeper shithole to piss on a good exchange.

This was his reply to my nice note:

Those are well made points!

I see now that after 9/11 the USA had only itself to blame for the Al Qaeda
attack. I'll send a letter to President Bush asking him to apologize to Al
Qaeda for the USA making Al Qaeda kill over 3000 people. Thanks for clearing
that up! Perhaps the Queen can send a letter to Germany apologizing for
England making the Germans kill all those people in WWII.
I see the light!

I should have known... my good will pissed on. :nuke: :grr: :hurts:

I gave him a dose of something I haven't done in YEARS, and that was the ZombyTroof.

Enjoy:

I thought we were having a civil and reasonable disagreement, but I guess
not. That's too bad.

I never made any such claims that America is responsible for 9-11. How
appalling and distorted. That's a fucking Limbaugh tactic, which can
usually be explained with Oxycontin, but what the hell. I only said Iraq is
not to blame for 9-11. Got that? Iraq is not to blame. The invasion of a
sovereign nation because of ever-changing rationalizations, cooked-up
intelligence, and just plain arrogance is what Chimpy needs to apologize
for. I just wish Chimpy was a man of his word and kept Osama a priority,
instead of trying to avenge his father for Saddam. Although Al Qaeda is to
blame for their murderous acts on 9-11, it didn't behoove the coked-up frat
boy in the White House to keep reading a children's book for 30 minutes
after finding out , then hop around like a scared rabbit in the aftermath.
World Leader Pretend. What an utter moron and embarrassment. He and this
maladministration are a sick joke, running up debt for generations and
insuring the cycle of revenge and violence will continue. Enron, WorldCom,
the unfunded mandate of NCLB, the reckless disregard for precedence with
international law, the PATRIOT Act, the millions of lost jobs (hello! I am a
stat here!), the lies about intelligence, the Valerie Plame incident... I
mean, there is NOT ONE REDEEMING FEATURE about this fucked-up regime in the
White House and their propagandists and enablers in the press. Not a fucking
one. And their attempts to make theocratic inroads with the Constitution
chap my ACLU-lovin' ass. Fuck the coke-addled AWOL chimpanzee and his
entire venal cabal.

Please, the straw man the Bushistas throw around about "blaming America" are
just that; straw men. Al Qaeda is to blame, although they were once our
boys in Afghanistan under Reagan. Maybe you should write Reagan instead,
and he can wipe his bed-ridden ass with the letter. But you know what? I
don't blame Reagan, Bush, or any of them, not even former Saddam business
partner Donald Rumsfeld. Not even Carlyle Board member George Bush Sr, or
Osama's father, a fellow board member. Hell, I could blame Clinton's penis,
but it has been busy killing our soldiers in Iraq. Damn that penis.

There is enough ignorance going around, whether from fundamentalist
monotheism Al Qaeda-style, or pious jeezo-hypocrisies from the White House.

I love America. I love it enough to want that stupid and dangerous
sonofabitch from fucking it in the ass, without the Crisco, every chance he
gets.

You will be troubled no more by any articles I write, publish, or
collaborate on. It's really too fucking bad you couldn't take the pleasant
exchange for what it was, and end up writing back the nastiest, snarkiest
bullshit I have ever seen outside of Free Republic.com. Gloves are off.
You don't impugn my love of America or of reason with bullshit like that and
not get called to the mat. Out of respect for my sister and her child, I
will not go any further.

Feel free to rip him a new asshole with your replies. My sister is off-limits, however - she has a good heart, and I bet she doesn't even know about this exchange. Yet.

1. Wow. That's some exchange.
It's too bad that your B-I-L had to turn it into that. Reasonable people can agreeably disagree. Freeps cannot. Good response.

You weren't kidding. You let him have it. Sadly, it's prolly not going do anything to change his mind, but it sounds like he deserved a tongue lashing anyway. Good luck!

6. That's what they do
You try to have a civil discourse and all they have left is to attack because they can't frame a logical argument based on the facts.
Sometimes though, as a woman, you get the "why worry you're pretty little head on such matters" attitude which infuriates me even more. :grr:

14. that would be total shit
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 08:27 PM by ZombyWoof
We never have liked each other too much, ever since I first found him passed out in the backyard at my sister's 21st birthday - this was 1982, 5 years before they married. But for the sake of my sister, I try hard to get along with him. I want my nephew to grow up knowing an alternative POV. Luckily, my parents are Dems and despise Bush, so maybe there is hope for the young one.

18. Something that also infuriates me
is when women I know go out of their way to not "worry their pretty little heads on such matters." I think that when young girls see this attitude in the women they look up to, it just propagates itself. It also allows men to continue to be patronizing.

I don't mean to offend anyone. I know that there are many men that intentionally avoid these issues as well. But they tend to use other excuses, such as a macho "I don't give a fuck" attitude.

What I mean by this is that I think it must really be hard to put up with that shitty condescending attitude that you speak of.

25. Yes
You can be a women who's sexy, smart, nurturing, and whatever else you want all in one package. I know, for me, I'm damn sick of feeling like I have to compromise one side of myself for another. I need some balance in life to be happy.

Why some women think you have to act like a moron to be attractive is beyond me? Maybe it makes some men feel less insecure or something. I don't know.

Your brother-in-law deserved that. His sarcasm was uncalled for. I think what happened is that, even though you were being civil, you touched a nerve in him. Probably with the light of truth. The truth hurts right wingers.

24. Zomby, I had a thing like this.
My good friend from the service (he's still in, I'm out) has parents (TX) who are Rush loving type RW'ers. They all get these clone RW emails that are hate filled diatribes against Kerry, Democrats, whoever (like the one about Democrats starting all the wars like WWII, Korea etc.). Sometimes they forward this stuff to me, I guess they assume because I am a vet that I'm some kind of RWer too. Usually I either ignore or toss without even reading them.

Let me set the table by saying that my friend's parents have never been anything but super nice to me, I've been over to their house, their son is one of my best and closest friends in the whole world. I'd never talk politics with them because I know we disagree.

But they sent me this "Major Zippo" letter which was another hate filled diatribe from some purported decorated Viet Vet attacking Kerry's Vietnam era activities. It actually praised shrub as a fighter pilot! That was it, it just blew my fuse. And I responded with:

Please send me no more letters like this.

Bush is not criticized for being in the Texas Air National Guard. He criticized for NOT EVEN BOTHERING TO SHOW UP for about a year of this service (obviously less risky than being in infantry combat in VN, which his daddy apparently wrangled for him), a fact that should be a trivial matter for him to disprove with his service records but which he cannot. Because he has shown himself so willing to send other young military men and women to their deaths in Iraq and utilize the military as set pieces for "safe" speech audiences who won't boo him and photo/ops like the aircraft carrier stunt, the issue of his being absent from his TANG duty has particular resonance during this election season.

Bush is rightly criticized about his aircraft carrier staged propaganda stunt because it showed the hubris, the arrogance that has been typical of this administration. The majority of American servicemen and women who have been killed in this invasion and occupation were killed after "Mission Accomplished". (This banner was something the administration tried to blame on the Navy crew, of all people, when it became clear the occupation was not going so smoothly, a claim they later had to retract and admit responsibility.) I think that GWB is easily the worst president in my lifetime and probably in the history of the United States and is bringing ruin and disgrace to this country. If we fail to turn him out in November it will be an unmitigated disaster this country cannot afford.

Here is some information about the evidence regarding the young George W. Bush's absences from his National Guard service:

http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/articles/2004/02/05/bushs_guard_service_what_the_record_shows/

"I am angry that so many of the sons of the powerful and well-placed and so
many professional athletes (who were probably healthier than any of us)
managed to wangle slots in Reserve and National Guard units. One of the many
tragedies of Vietnam, this raw class discrimination strikes me as the most
damaging to the ideal that all Americans are created equal and owe
allegiance to their country."
Colin Powell, "My American Journey"

I immediately sent a followup email apologizing for blowing up and said I usually don't debate politics where there's a clear disagreement like this, with good friends, because it's just not worth the hurt. They responded and said don't worry we won't send you any more like this.
