One up, one down for Mets
VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Every bit of good news for the Mets seems to come with a disclaimer these days, each shred of optimism tempered by a worst-case scenario.
Look no further than the deflating injuries to Jose Reyes and Kazuo Matsui, two of the most talented and energetic players on the team.
Amid this gloom, however, the Mets discovered a couple of reasons to smile Monday, one more tangible than the other. Though the status of Reyes' strained right hamstring still is uncertain, general manager Jim Duquette said Monday he believes the injury is not severe. MRI results are expected today.
Duquette said the team had ruled out the most severe strain (Grade 3), which involves a recovery period of six to 10 weeks. He had nothing more definite than that.
