Any Thee Hypnotics fans?
Edited on Tue Mar-16-04 12:28 PM by lunabush
Am writing an article and needed something to keep me moving so I put on Soul Glitter and Sin: Tales from the Sonic Underground.

Never hear much about them. Kind of a soul UK version of the MC5, maybe a little Spacemen3 and a lot of Stooges (Craig Pike who played with Iggy was in the band until his OD). Hell, at times there seems to be some Giant Sand or Thin White Rope in 'em. Great band, wrong sound(s), wrong time, wrong continent.

2. I never gave the few discs of theirs I have much thought
and then today looked them up on the web. I guess not many others gave them much thought, either. Not a preponderance of web sites out there.

5. You're thinking of Thee Headcoats...
and their assorted side projects, of which Thee Hypnotics is not one of them.

6. You are correct, but...
...remember, SLB is a Stone Roses fan. Sometimes they can be a little slow. ;)

8. What's wrong with the Stone Roses?
Other than that dreadful Second Coming album.

That first album though still gets the occasional spin in my stereo.

9. It's a DU meme, just like Guided By Voices.
Except, clearly much better.

11. GBV? Now there's an overrated band....
A few catchy melodies? Sure. But of all the people in the entire history of recorded music worthy of having their every blip, fart, burp, and hummed melody commited to tape, Mr. washed up ex schoolteacher doesn't even make the top 100 for me.

But try telling that to any of the slathering fan boys to whom Mr. Pollard is some sort of lo-fi savior.

12. I talked with a promoter recently
who has been in the bidness at various levels for 20 odd years. He has done huge shows, outdoor fests, etc, and still does little shows. I asked him who he would not even considering working with again. His reply, Guided By Voices. Another promoter, smaller time, was in the room, and this guy, who promotes halfway across the country agreed. Don't know what it is about them, but they generate strong reactions. Funny, this guy could have chosen the Stones, Robert Plant, U2, Dylan, REM, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, etc. No, his least fave in 20 years was instantly the small time GBV. So mcuh for cool people in indie rock.
