21. Sometimes the bolt flashes enough that you can just catch it.

Alternately, set up an SLR on a tripod some distance away and open the shutter. Stop it down as far as it will go and, if you have to, add neutral density filters to keep from over-exposing the shot.

I was just using my point-n-shoot, but simply never had it facing the area of the most lightning. Seems like my arm would get tired just a few seconds before one hit! lol

It's a huge meteor shower that blinds pretty much everyone, other than a few that had their eyes covered. It's presumed the Triffids arrived on one of the meteors.

30. Controlled burns are great

but too many people don't understand them or the need, even when you try to educate them about it all.

I remember learning about them for this one nature center where I had been a volunteer. They would do controlled burns of their prairie grass because the seeds for certain types of grass won't open unless they've been slightly charred. The fire departments were always notified ahead, so they had to field all the calls about "grass fires". I have to wonder what kinds of responses they got when they explained the situation ;)

35. Years ago, Mr GoG and I were off-trail hiking

through a small park near our home. We enjoy mucking around in swampy, marshy areas, which is why we went off-trail.

On the way back, we saw guys working a controlled burn. It was a little scary to come across...the last thing we would have expected. The burners took no notice of us, though. I guess if there'd been any serious danger, they would have given us hell.

It just rained here for about five minutes and stopped. Just enough to keep the humidity up and keep things from drying out. Just not enough to give my roof that 12-hour-long drip onto the metal carport below. It was still dripping when I went to bed around 4:30 last night!
