Poll question: Are You What You Wanted To Be When You Grew Up?
I'm not.

I wanted to be a police officer, but then I kinda got a distast of guns and the idea that I'd be dealing with really bad people all day.

Then I wanted to be a sports writer, and actually did that, but I'm not anymore.

Now I want to be president, but I'm not old enough. So I still have an outside shot at being what I want to be when I grow up.

You?

1. There's no "Sort Of"
I wanted to be a scientist or an astronaut when I grew up. Today I'm a computer programmer which, according to my degree, makes me a "Computer Scientist". Not quite what I intended as a kid.

I only dabble in astronomy and physics today, which is where I wanted to be :)

2. No and I like it
There were no computers around when I was a kid, so there's no way I could dream about being a computer geek. I wanted to be a civil engineer or architect.

5. Grew up?
I'm 35 and busy w/ 3 kids but I'm not a grown-up. Actually, I wanted to be Katherine Hepburn...I do a little community theatre and hassle the repugs!! Not too bad.

7. No, I didn't want to be a middled aged man
working midnights in a sweat shop circuit board factory making circuit boards for missiles with an AS in Management. That wasn't exactly my dream job. I am going to school at night right now to fix that. I am taking LVN classes. I will not be defeated by globalization. I will not.

8. When I Was Three, I Wanted to be a Consultant
Sort of. My aunt told me that in response to "What do you want to be when you grow up," I said "a thinker."

I believe what I had in mind was that I would sit in an office, people would come to me with problems, and I would think about it and answer them. Very satisfying.

At their best, my jobs in telecom have been something like that. But not very often.

9. Wanted to be an Oceanographer or.........
a Marine Biologist. I was really into Cousteau and wanted to work in that environment. It wasn't to be as I really wasn't mature enough at the time to handle the discipline required.
If I only knew them what I know now.
Am I complaining? No, I'm satisfied.

11. No one wanted to be an accountant when they grow up!
HOwever, if everyone is what they wanted to be, there would be lots of pirates, cowboys, astronaunts, and balletdancers.

15. I wanted to be a nun ( nice Catholic girl )
but that was not to be (fortunately)

One of those vocational surveys in high school said music and psychology. And that is how it has pretty much turned out. Band chick/drummer by night (before parenthood) and member of the mental health profession by day.

16. No and it makes me sad sometimes
No one wants to be an auditor when they grow up. I wanted to be a musician and I was on the road to making it happen before my life fell apart back in college. I miss it sometimes. :(

17. I wanted to be a cast member on SNL when I was little
I was a weird kid. As one who has changed her major 3 times in 14 years, I'm not an easy one to ask. I started off majoring in marketing because I had a good head for business and economics and hoped to blend that with something creative, but I was always rather leftist, so there were too many conflicts. I had my daughter at 20 and when I went back to school I wasn't sure, so I just majored in early childhood education because it was very easy for me and I wanted to lock in my credits becfore I lost them. Now I'm working on a degree in nursing, hoping initially to work with in post partum maternal child health, but I would ultimately, down the road, like to get a masters in public health and do bigger things in regards to making public health policies. That's something I've wanted to do for a long time now.

18. I wanted to be an Architect.
Or a car designer.

Neither happened. Probably a good thing or some people would be driving something that looks like this:
