Anyone remember the cannibal theme pop hit, "Timothy" by The Bouys?
Thinking about the Dawn of the Dead remake, the orginal and all that...

The Buoys
(Rupert Holmes)

Trapped in a mine that had caved in
And everyone knows the only ones left
Were Joe and me and Tim
When they broke through to pull us free
The only ones left to tell the tale
Were Joe and me

Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you go?
Timothy, Timothy, God why don't I know?

Hungry as hell no food to eat
And Joe said that he would sell his soul
For just a piece of meat
Water enough to drink for two
And Joe said to me, "I'll have a swig
And then there's some for you."

Timothy, Timothy, Joe was looking at you
Timothy, Timothy, God what did we do?

I must have blacked out just around then
'Cause the very next thing that I could see
Was the light of the day again
My stomach was full as it could be
And nobody ever got around
To finding Timothy
Timothy...

1. Wow I never knew that song was written by Rupert Holmes!
And here I was gonna answer his personal ad and go have a Pina Colada with him!

2. Me either
I'm assuming it's the same Ruppert Holses.

I just googled the lyrics in order to prove to my wife I wasn't making it up, that gut-munching has always been viewed as viable subject matter to the public at large.

I even had the single.

3. didn't they try to play this off by claiming "Timothy" was the mule?
Guess folks couldn't bear to leave this one on the "Donner Playlist"...

4. I remember the mule bit too.
I was googling around trying to see if that came up anywhere, but haven't found anything yet. At least I know I'm not totally crazy.

5. Yeah
the cover slip on the 45 had a mule on it. But I remember then the rumor--among 12-14 year olds, mind you--that that was not the orginal sleeve.

6. Interview w/ Holmes re: subject matter:
http://www.creativepitch.com/archive/digest/d1016.htm

" 'He told me he only had one more single he could make with them'
remembers Rupert Holmes. 'I told him 'If I were you I'd do a song that
was controversial, something that might even get banned in some places:
anything to get the group some notoriety' "Well it just so happened
that I was working on an arrangement of 'Sixteen Tons' for Andy Kim's
producer, Jeff Barry" Holmes continues. "I was strumming a guitar and
Graham Kent's 'Galloping Gourmet' cooking show was on in the other
room. He was explaining how to make some dish while I'm singing the
lyrics to 'Sixteen Tons' - 'Some say a man's made out of mud, muscle
and blood and skin and bone' and I said 'That sounds like a recipe'
then I thought 'That's it ! - Cannibalism !" And I made the connection
with the group being from Pennsylvania which was known for its coal
mines. So I came up with the story of three miners who are trapped in a
cave-in and two of them have to eat the third in order to survive. It
wasn't something sexual or drug-related, but it was controversial'

8. I heard that "timothy" was actually a trail mix kind of snack
that was carried around by hikers and other like beings. If you look up 'timothy' in the dictionary, one of it's definitions is something that mentions the following - "...called also herd's grass, in England, cat's-tail grass, and meadow cat's-tail grass. It is much prized for fodder".

They was just foolin' us. They was eatin' grain.
