"Real World" Pulled from Philly
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=797&e=3&u=/eo/20040318/en_tv_eo/13724

This is the story of seven strangers; picked to live, well, not in Philly.

Three weeks before shooting was due to begin, Bunim-Murray Productions has yanked plans to shoot the next edition of The Real World in Philadelphia.

After Bunim-Murray hired non-union workers to renovate the building that was supposed to serve as the cast's pad, union workers in the so-called City of Brotherly Love gave the producers a reception that was neither brotherly nor loving.

Though past seasons of The Real World have taped in cities with strong union sensibilities, including Boston, Chicago and New York, Bunim-Murray had always successfully negotiated hiring non-union workers.

I love Real World and was excited that they were FINALLY making it to Philly. What didn't John Street get involved? This was a great way to show off our city to a younger generation

8. Good...now if they were to cancel it in all the cities across the nation..
then I'd be a happy camper.

I prefer to live my life than to watch others live theirs.

11. You should have seen what they did to the "Real World" in Chicago
Near riots, demonstrations against MTV and Viacom every weekend in front of the house that never made it on air. Most of the local businesses in the house's neighborhood refused to allow them access to shoot. How do I know? The house was a block from my house and I had to deal with their bullshit for the entire fall of 2001. There was practically dancing in the streets when they packed up and left Wicker Park.

12. I'd Like To See the "Real World" Come to Pueblo, Colorado
Have the kids live in a double-wide on the outskirts of town, and work for one of the telemarketing firms in town, such as Convergys.

THAT is "Real World"!!!!

:-)
