What to name our unborn son?
I've been searching the internet for weeks and arguing with the wife for days. Any suggestions on a good name?

11. Connor or Conor are definitely on a short list right now. I like Logan
but then again, my last name is Barry. That's just cruel, man. The kid would get his ass kicked every day at school. Hell, if I'm gonna go that route, I might as well just name the boy Blue...or Dingle.

17. Logan Barry!
Too funny! I doubt he'd get an ass-kicking because the loganberry isn't something that a lot of kids know about. Still, he'd probably rather be known by his middle name, Mull.

24. Bible names are always good
and something that the little guy (and his teachers) can spell and pronounce. Matthew, Mark, Jared, Samuel, Daniel, Joseph, etc. We went with Old Testament names - boring but never out of date. Or how about Kellen - I babysat for a cute, sweet, baby boy named Kellen and I've loved the name ever since.

29. Pick up a copy of "Beyond Jennifer and Jason"
or whatever the latest Rosencrantz and Satran book is. They classify names by the impressions they give (which names are trendy, which names say "Hot Stud", which names will get your kid beaten up.) They have really good advice for finding a name you and your wife (and your son) can all live with.

30. John-Morgan
I thought I was gonna be a Dad about ten years ago and got really excited. She said, "If it's a girl, I name her; if it's a boy, you name him." I spent a week going through a rolo-dex in my head and kept coming back to the same name over and over again--

"John-Morgan". No idea why. Never heard it before (that I can remember). Just kinda stuck with me. Hope if I'm honored to have a wife and a baby boy sometime in my future, I can name him that.

My opinion.

55. Get a copy of "Beyond Jennifer and Jason, Madison and Montana"
If I recall correctly, it's by Rosenkrantz and Satran (no, not Guildenstern). The book covers fads, naming twins, issues to consider when you plan to have more than one child, etc. It's one of the sanest books I've ever seen on naming babies, and it's pretty extensive and entertaining.

As for Irish, there are many, many names to consider. There are Declan, Seamus, Padraig, and so forth. Or you could go the saint route and pick something like Alphonse (just don't name your next boy Gaston).

Congratulations and good luck!
