Anyone else think using someones voice in a Viagra ad who died of AIDs...
...is just a little crass? The Queen song We Ar The Champions featuring Freddy Mercury is the commercial I am talking about. I don't know? Something just doesn't seem right. Maybe I am off base here?

3. par for the course
They also used T Rex's Twentieth Century Boy in a sports car commercial awhile back even though Marc Bolan died in a car wreck.

4. I think thats stretching this really far
and beyond the realm of logic.

I think you may have too much time on your hands.:eyes:

The song is a commercial gold mine. Money/revenue no doubt goes to his family and charities.

Also, Aids is not just acquired through erect penis's.....:smoke:

5. Bob Dole was bad enough when the drug came out in 1996 or whenever...

Compared to a decrepit, antediluvian Republican, an understandably promiscuous guy with slightly more musical talent seems reassuring and oddly appropriate... (and I'm not saying that it is...)

Remember, these are corporations at work. They don't care about situations. Only bottom lines. The bottom line here is "We are the champions". This means if you use Viagra, you'll last a few minutes ad have an orgasm, we at pfizer helped you and that's why you're paying the medical industry hundreds of dollars. For we are your pimps.

It doesn't matter who Freddy was or how he died, even though by using this song it marks a new low in the realm of inappropriate bad taste.

6. Well, Don, the hard-on ads on TV are ubiquitous
Some guy throws a phallic football through a tire swing for Levitra. A new drug keeps it up for 36 hours but warns that an erection lasting for over six hours is a medical emergency - priapsis, I think it's called (911, we need an ambulance please, my partner has had a boner for over six hours). NASCAR has a Viagra mobile, tempting those studly dads to studly deeds.

Meanwhile, back at the Bu$h ranch, Janet Jackson gets busted for a bust. Stern gets busted for a naughty word or two. Bono gets busted for saying "fuck" which is what Big Pharma is promoting.

In other words, yet another double standard.

7. "In other words, yet another double standard."
I should be used to that by now, Mac. But it still bugs the hell out of me.

8. In the immortal words of that great humanitarian...
George Carlin....

"I got fired in Las Vegas for saying shit. This, in a town, where the number one game is craps."

10. That commercial is badly worded
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 09:23 PM by HypnoToad
"That'll last 36 hours... oh, incidentially, if you keep the pecker pecked for more than 6 hours, it'll burst or fall off..." (edit: That's my paraphrasing. You'd already said the official wording...)

And you're right. It's a gigantic double standard. A gigantic, ribbed double standard. And not for her pleasure either, unless "her" is Michael Powell and that kinda fits...
