My neighborhood is going NUTS.. Hazmat trucks ..THREE of 'em

A semi sized one..a stake-bed truck..(big one)..and a smaller open bed truck.. They have been at the house two houses away since about 3PM.. I watched them unload about THIRTY 50 gal drums .. The "unmarked" suburban is parked in front of our house.. three guys weariing guns, but no badges or markings on their clothing..

Guys wearing "spacesuit gear" looking all around the backyard and sideyard of that house..

Houses were sometimes built on old factory locations, and it was (probably still is) a habit of some companies to bury toxins (waste oil etcetera) in oil drums in the ground.

There was a lot of hoopla not too long ago, a guy went to build a garage, and found some drums when he went to put in footings.

Being a good citizen, he contacted the city, (figuring there was only one or two), city called provincial, provincial called Federal, Environment Ministry got involved . .

Making a long story short,

they found DOZENS of drums buried under his lawn, and as the owner of the property, HE was being held financially responsible for the tens of thousands of dollars to do the clean-up.

I think he lost is house over it . .

Haz mat brought the drums in. I have a friend in the police dept.. I'll call him & find out..

If the people flew the coop, they left their classic pick-up in the garage..

My husband walked down there to ask the people who lived right next to them, and they could see it in the garage..

No one would tell us anything, so I guess the place isn't gonna blow up :)

Unless you're used to the smell of Dow Chemical in your residential neighboehood, you would knoe the smell. It's a pretty invasive smell, one that can only be described as "chemical" in nature. Think "fertilizer factory" or "burning auto-parts store" for inspiration.

some fucked out meth brains do use filters and most people don't pay much attention to smells.
Like in it smells like snow, usually it is an ozone smell nowadays.
Today there was an ozone smell in town starting at around 16:00, I thought is it my over the 1,000,000 truck? Is it the starter electrical sniffs close to ozone (the generator is new, check engine: no overheated insulation, etc.), had turned on the AC because it was hot quickly here today, the snow-pack has melted like mad (hate high temps so early: drought and too damn hot in summer), got out of the truckie and it wasn't the truckie (whew, no immanent repairs). However, the usual weather conditions for sniff of ozone weren't present, unless the RH is higher than my skin felt, will check local weather.
I smoke (partially to kill some smells) I can identify what spices are in the sauce by smell (and unpleasant smells like who didn't wash after ... which are less annoying than the chemical coverovers and the scented candles at the florist smelling more than the flowers, although many hybrids don't smell much).
People don't pay much attention to smell, even when it can tell your baby, pet, etc. is ill.
What is sad is that there are harmful elements that have no smell at all.
