NCAA's tourney 3 very important questions?
1. How did Murray's Steaks get a team in there and is this a sign of things to come (corporate teams instead of Universites)?

They are the #12 seed in the "Atlanta" bracket they play Illinois today.

2.What the hell is up with this "Atlanta"/St.Louis"/"Phoenix"/"East Rutherford" brackets crap?

It used to be the East/West/South/Midwest now we have this steaming load.

3. Anyone do worse than 6 wrong (out of 16 games) yesterday?

I got all of the 8/9 games wrong and I filled out two different brackets with some minor changes and STILL got 6 wrong on each. :grr::shrug:

1. Answers:
1. I think it's supposed to be Murray State.

2. I agree, it's a bunch of garbage. The regional brackets were much easier to follow.

3. I didn't pick a bracket this year, so I can't compare with your pathetic performance. ;-)

And I have a 4th question for you:

4. Is there any team in the country who got screwed worse than Pittsburgh? I mean, not only did they get a 3 seed after going 29-4 (and losing those 4 games by a grand total of 9 points), they also are looking at essentially playing Wisconsin on their home floor (Milwaukee) in the second round!

3. Well, as a UW-Milwaukee graduate

Edit: Never mind, I thought Pitt was playing UW Milwaukee, not UW Madison. Yeah, there will be a big home court advantage. Go Lienenkugal!

I don't know how much that "home court" advantage will mean. Maybe things have changed since I went to grad school there, but I wasn't even aware that they had a basketball team back then.

Of course, I have gotten calls from the local chapter of the UWM alumni club telling me to attend the games the last couple of years. So maybe they will turn out a rabid fan base.

In contrast to University of Texas (where I did my undergraduate work), the only calls I have ever gotten was for fund raisers. I guess they are able to fill the fan busses and don't need help from decrepit old alumni.

12. Wisconsin
I don't know if they got screwed worse than Pittsburgh, but Wisconsin really got screwed. They win the Big Ten tourney by blowing out Illinois (it was, admittedly, a weak conference this year, but still, c'mon), they finished ranked #10 in the country with a 24-6 record, and they get seeded #6? That's not right. Wisconsin should be a #3, and there's no way Wisconsin vs. Pittsburgh should be a second round game. The selection committee admitted that they made their decisions before the completion of the Big Ten championship game. What's up with that?

16. I also had Charlotte winning two games!
Fortunately, my only other loss yesterday was Arizona. (Yup, I had Manhattan and Nevada). You also left out a fourth, very important, question. Who will knock the smug, arrogant, yuppie, overrated Dook Blue Devils out of the tournament?

and getting back to the sweet 16 (heart over head?), before (sniffle) losing to Mississippi State.

4. Answer to #2.
I've heard a theory that they're eventually going to change the brackets to sponsors' names. So this was the first step--changing them to something else first so people get used to them not being the way they were before. Then they don't look like greedy bastards right away, and they can say, "well, nobody liked it when they were Atlanta, etc., anyway."

8. I think I can help...
1. Maybe Murray's has a chef college - with tall chefs in training!

2. I think there are some early round games being played "out west" but the regional finals are "back east". I think they're trying to keep more teams closer to home in the early rounds, so renaming the brackets maybe makes more sense...I dunno...that's the official answer though.

3. I missed DePaul, Nevada and Alabama...I CALLED MANHATTAN THOUGH!!!

9. Do they do vegeterian dishes?
Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 10:28 AM by underpants
And do they need specially adapted oven hoods so they don't bump their heads?

The keeping teams closer to home makes sense but it was posted above that this may be a means to have the Coca-Cola (Atlanta) regional and the Verizon regional.

11. I think they should name the brackets after legends...
The John Wooden Regional, the Wilt Chamberlain Regional, the Jimmy Chitwood Regional and the Norman Dale Regional

14. Since it is college I guess the Moses Malone regional is out
My I suggest the Jim Spnarkle (Duke in the late 70's)-Wooden is good- Oscar Robertson- and um Olden Polynice. :bounce:

BTW- I saw an ad for voting on the all-0time tournament team. MAgic, Wilt, and so forth are shown and mentioned aaaaaaand Bobby Hurley.....BOBBY HURLEY? All-time all tournament team? If you didn't think there was a Duke lean to things at CBS before you definitely should now.

15. Answers
1. It is Murray State and I have them advancing to the sweet 16.(god help me :scared: )

2. I don't know and I don't care.

3. Only got 3 wrong, actually 4 because I had Michigan State beating Gonzaga in the next round.

The ones I got wrong were Arizona over Seton Hall. Southern Illinois over Alabama. And Michigan State over Nevada.
