For those who hate Vista, why do you dislike it?
Edited on Thu Oct-15-09 07:19 PM by tXr
Besides the fact that it is Windows?

edit: I am neutral towards Vista - it gets me onto the Internet and does what I need it to do. Meh.

Just wondering what all the hate is about.

1. Program incompatability towards some XP programs
and it also ran on my T5450 Core 2, 2GB of RAM as fast as my old PIII 700Mhz running XP on 256MB RAM. It is better than ME but worst than XP SP 2 or 3.

4. it`s stupid.
it`s another "why did`t they wait" microshit operating system...if you like vista spend your dollars and buy 7. 7 actually can "run" vista and x at the same time.

7 is the best microshit has developed

5. I guess I'm neutral with it. But I see no advantage to it whatsoever.
I think all the hoopla, and now hoopla about 7 is nothing but a marketing ploy.

6. Requires a lot of system resources
Not too bad on newer PCs, but when it came out it ran horrible on all but the latest systems at the time...too many services enabled by default, indexing service seemed to run constantly in the background, slowing down other processes. Constant security popups, downloading a file from the net and double-clicking to install opened one permission windows (user account control), then another (allow, block dialog)...a lot of older applications had trouble running on Vista, and running in compatibility mode was hit or miss.

Vista got better with each service pack, but it took too long to really square away some of the nuisances, and many people and businesses balked at upgrading, choosing to instead keep XP which by service pack 3 was fast and stable (though less secure).

9. I agree that it does have too many services enabled by default.
I just reformatted an HP laptop with Vista and spent half an hour editing the registry and modifying processes to disable user account control and turn off unnecessary services such as updating and the security center.

I think XP is better than Vista, as it isn't as much of a resource hog and the folder trees are easier to navigate (the laptop has 4 gb RAM, so it handles Vista well), but for my very simple needs, Vista is ok.

7. File Management/"MyComputer" layout is ridiculous.
I have to hunt around for my goddamned files too much.

Also, the Start menu bites. Even the XP-like configuration is way short of actual XP.

10. The file management is pretty ridiculous.
It is more difficult than XP to navigate among folders, but I just shrug and say "it's Vista, what do you expect?"

8. Takes up too much memory when idling
Doesn't like XP programs. I hate the "need permission" window.

16. unnecessary changes to the interface/browser windows, lack of compatibilty w/ older software/drivers
the whole 'administrator' thing - also unneeded.

17. Hated the interface changes
I thought Windows XP had it just about right....I know you can *sort of* replicate the XP interface on Vista, but it's a pain and not really the same. I hope they roll some of it back to XP for the next upgrade (which I get free, huzzah).
