I was so proud of my daughter yesterday!!
My children go to a "Spanish Immersion" elementary school -- the majority of their day is taught in Spanish. They are learning to read, write and speak Spanish. My daughter is in second grade (her third year in the program), and it is amazing to watch her progress.

Yesterday, we were at my son's baseball game and my daughter had one of her school books with her that was written in Spanish. There was a woman sitting behind us who spoke Spanish and she asked about my daughter's book. My wife told the woman about the school and the woman started asking my daughter questions in Spanish. My daughter carried on a conversation with the women for a few minutes and then the woman said, "Wow -- she is good! She speaks Spanish very well!"

I was so proud of her!!

1. Sounds like a great program - my wife has a co-worker
whose child is in a Chinese immersion program in Mass and they speak very highly of it and my wife (who is a native Chinese speaker) thinks the program is pretty good

Your daughter is adorable, too.

2. That's so cool!
My kids are taking Spanish classes but it's not the same as immersion. We are trying to get them to understand how helpful this will be later on in life.

:applause:

3. very cool
Learning a foreign language at that age would have saved me a couple of GPA points in college.

4. I studied french immersion in public school. They say that for kids to learn
a second language is a great thing because kids learn the idea of "concepts" earlier because they approach vocabulary from two different vantage points.
