You'd have to be a jazz fan to appreciate this.

1. Solo or with a group?
For my money he's the best Jazz pianist alive. I particularly love the 2 cd duo with (the late) Stan Getz.

2. Two different groups!
Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 11:19 AM by bif
First set was his Classical Jazz Quartet with Stephon Harris, Rufus Reed and the unbelievable Lewis Nash. The second set featured his Brazilian group with John Pattitucci on bass. Both groups were great although I preferred the first one. I shook hands with Pattitucci and Barron after the show!

4. His tone was a bit muddy. But Pattitucci, WOW!
Have you ever heard any of the Tana-Reed stuff? Rufus had a group with Akira Tana. Incredible group.

Since she studied under Marcus Belgrave here in Detroit. She sounds like a great pianist. How was she?

5. Saw him many moons ago with Diz at Al Hirt's club.
Totally impressive, and (then) so young. And an excellent quintet; I bumped into James Moody in the john and asked if they would play "Move", but he smiled and said it wasn't in the book. :)

That would put KB's mastery at about four decades, at least.

7. We ran into James Moody after a concert at a restaurant
And I went over to him to get an autograph. He was sitting with a couple of oldsters and was clearly bored. He gave me a big bear hug. When we left, he gave everyone in our party a big ol' hug.
