If you're using a computer, you're not playing D&D. If you're not using graph paper, you're not playing D&D.

1. Baloney.
I miss the face-to-face experience, but nowadays the only D&D I get is through a computer monitor, and it is quite good.

2. And miniature figures.
They solve a lot of disputes about "who was in front?" "who was second?" and in all combat situations.

I've still got all 350 or so of mine (from the late 70's) and about half of them are painted in fine detail. I even have all 14 of the Pork Orcs (modeled after the original Beginner's set drawing).

3. I agree that it should be done on a table
however, I haven't used graph paper since the 80s. Even in the 90s, we had a battlemat with 1" hexes on it.
