Post one thing that really pisses you off. Just one thing.
You may have a whole host of items you wish to vent about. In this thread keep it to one.

Mine? Tailgaiters in heavy traffic. I wish I didn't get so mad, but it seems I can't help it. I try to stay mellow, I really, really do.

Yours?

74. Don't move to my neighborhood. You'd hate it here.
Example: The other day I was walking with my elderly mom (age 86) through a supermarket parking lot. We loaded several bags of groceries into the trunk of my car, and then I needed to open the door for her to get her safely into the passenger side beside me. Some asshole parked next to me blows past us and damn near pushes her over getting into his car. Then he starts backing up before she has a chance to shut her door. It's not like any of this was taking long at all. She's very spry for her age. This guy was just a completely self-absorbed POS. When I saw what he was doing I called, "Couldn't you wait a couple of seconds?" His answer: "You old women need to get the hell out of people's way." Nice.

96. Right. At a time when homelessness it rising to near a historical high
we have record numbers of empty houses out there because of foreclosures. Somehow, what is good for people never comes into the discussion. It's always what is good for the Banks! :grr:

And, all this politics and money for big agribusiness, the choices they make are sickening. All this money to subsidize animal feed, so that meat is cheaper, but how about making vegetables affordable for everyone? How about supporting real organic and local food instead of proceed crap? And then using all our money to undercut farmers in other countries to drive them out of business just creates artificial shortages, and that doesn't help anyone. It just drives up the prices and helps the big businesses and the banks again!

:(

I'm hopefully going to get out of the house today to run some errands. Hopefully I won't get another migraine today to short circuit things.

We need to start winterizing the house. :)

I'm doing pretty well, although hellaciously busy at work, and making myself busy outside of it, too... playing some fiddle and doing some dancing, to balance my sanity. Overall, life's pretty good right now. :)

31. Pseudoscientific talk from people who have contempt for science.
I get a lot of that over in E&E in connection with nuclear science.

It comes from people who know no nuclear science, who want to ban nuclear science because it's over their heads, though it's immediately clear that their ever hoping to understand that which they criticize is, exactly, zero.

On the other hand, I kind of take a perverse and cruel pleasure shooting ducks in that particular barrel.

My real peeve is that ignorance kills.

56. Very good one.
And it seems much worse to me now than in the past, in that people are not just holding onto silly beliefs in their own private circles. Rather, they will actually ARGUE with great confidence and belligerence on subjects they know nothing about.

I suspect it reflects a combination of:

*the self-esteem movement that started in schools about 30 years ago and taught kids that any opinion is just as valid as any other,

*the ridiculous assumption that one can teach "critical thinking" in the absence of facts. As a result, we have a generation of people who have never been taught basic scientific principles, but who believe that their own stray associations and "logic" substitute for knowledge.

-and-

*the availability of quick internet research, which makes everyone an "expert" in his or her own mind (see someone else's great post above about Google experts).

54. FOX NEWS... and how they pusth to divide the Nation.
Edited on Wed Oct-21-09 07:50 PM by AsahinaKimi
Arrogant bastards think they can just make up any news they want, put any spin they want on events, Lie, spew hatred, racism, promote and cheer lead rallies, and push their agenda which is to find away to disrupt and belittle the Democratic party.

They pretend they are a news organization but claim they don't have to provide any real facts. They can make up the news anyway they want. They can name call, and spot light on people they don't like.

The other media outlets may lean to wards the left... but FOX NEWS is in bed with the Right wing and the Republican Party. They take their talking points from the Republican party. They take their talking points from far right wing people like Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, and Rush Limbaugh. Their only function is
to tear apart any credibility the left has, and to push the USA into a country into a far right agenda.

107. Oh yes. They'll walk into me in my wheelchair.
And then yell at me that I'm the one not watching where I'm going. I saw them coming, knew they weren't watching where they were going, and couldn't get out of their way fast enough, but somehow I get the abuse.

I'm in an electric wheelchair, so I'm supposed to be superhumanly maneuverable. I get "jokes" about having my driving license revoked, or about driving on the sidewalk. I get the threats that I shouldn't be allowed out in public, and I don't know how to drive, and I'm not safe in this chair. All this because They walked into Me.

I guarantee that when I am out in my chair I am the most observant person in the crowd. I am the most alert person there. Often I'll come to a complete stop when I see that a collision is inevitable just so they absolutely cannot claim that I ran into them. That doesn't stop them though. :(

I'm supposed to run an obstacle course all the time of totally ignorant and clueless people who can't be bothered to even see that I'm there, and when they fuck up it's always somehow my fault!

:grr:

124. The stereotype is that having any disability means you are retarded too.
We are automatically considered too stupid to be right about anything, and therefore automatically to blame for a whole lot of shit. So, yes, many people often feel free to yell at and insult people in wheelchairs. :(

Nobody gets a free pass. Everyone gets abuse. Where any kind of prejudice or stereotype can be involved it only gets worse.

119. Yup, as though they were in their living rooms.
I don't doubt that people have always misbehaved in theaters, but I think the proliferation of devices -- cell phones, BlackBerries, DVD players -- have increased the sense that we're all in our own little worlds and there's no need to adjust behavior when in public. :grr:

And as for little children in the theater, I've seen people bring their tots to things like The Constant Gardener and Breaking the Waves -- definitely not kiddie fare.
