1. Good one! The great Keef Emerson...
I guarantee you my wife's vibrator has more memory in it than that ten-foot bank of ancient electronics. Looks positively medieval, don't it? Prog to the max!

(Hey, no jokes about the vibrator, OK? She got it before she met me, and hardly ever needs it now....)

I'm surprised he never got his hair caught in the gears and had his scalp ripped off his noggin. Hell, his hair alone said "prog over-kill." That, and "The Six Wives of Henry VIII."

can't remember who the keyboardist was (one of the big progrock groups) but one of the last shows had these people dressed like warriors from medieval times ice skating--would love to see a pic of that!

33. PG era Genesis is about the only old prog-rock I can actually listen to
Actually, there was a method to the costumes as most of Genesis's songs did tell a distinct story. Plus I guess it gave the audience something to look at during the instrumental wanking off sections.

In terms of the music, there was a certain pastoral sound to the albums and their lyrics had a literacy to them that other groups like Yes, ELP and others of a similar ilk discarded in order to sing nonsensical strings of phrases that sounded deep only when if you were fall on your ass stoned, tripping out or impossibly naive.

Plus you have to give points to a band that gives four sides over to a story about a New York street punk who falls into his own Alice in Wonderland alter-reality.

On second thought, King Crimson still remains listenable if you start with Larks Tounge in Aspic and go from there.

Oh and PG Genesis does kick solidly. Been awhile since I listened to Lamb. I may have to do that soon.

31. You sure that's not Roy Wood of The Move?
Precursor to ELO? Nah, I guess you're right. That must be Jeff Lynnne, innit? The early ELO stuff was kinda prog, but they went so mainstream in the end. Hell, so did everyone else, I guess! Except for King Crimson. Long live Fripp!

35. Roy Wood led The Move, founded in '66.
When it disbanded, in '72, he was, for a very brief time, part of the group that rose from its ashes, namely ELO. But Wood split quickly and formed his own band while Lynne, a Move member, took ELO to hit singles and silliness.

39. I heard the original Kansas
before their record deal around about 1972. (I lived in their hometown) Completely different band.
Only 2 of the originals (actually maybe only 1) were in the band everyone knows.
The original band had a heavy Zappa/King Crimson influence, believe it or not.
