Dystopian Future and Exploration of Cosmos most likely are my favorites.

I like The X-Files but thats about it for paranormal stuff.

But I really dig the authors who manage to present aliens as something truely alien, rather than merely funny shaped humans.

Samuel R. Delaney did a great job with "Sands in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand" -

Michael Butler (or was it Bishop) started out an old SF "space opera" - I think it's called "Earthblood" - really great, but the plot totally feel apart. His treatment of the aliens - and the "human interaction" in the first few chapters were quite good.

Actually, I like something with a little more plausibility than the old SNL skits from the 70s. I sometimes refer to it by its fancypants names like "uchronia" or "counterfactual history." Cause I'm a dork.

It's an alternative history built on "what if the South won the civil war?" Great movie!
