Hi Joan!
Kepler's Book Store in Menlo Park is an institution...so much so that when it went under because of financial troubles a few years ago, the public outcry for its return resurrected it from the dead.

In its original location (essentially right across the street from its current location in on El Camino), I was browsing with my ex-girlfriend in the late eighties. All of a sudden I heard "Hi, Joan!"

It was Joan Baez, big smile on her face, breezing in to browse with the rest of us. She was very sweet and friendly...she seemed to like the recognition and no one hassled her.

At the time, she sort of looked like this:

I also had front-row seats for the Emmylou Harris "Elite Hotel" show at the Circle Star Theater (her second album), and Joan was the unexpected walk-on guest.

:toast:

1. Ah, Menlo Park!
I lived on Harvard Ave. in the 70's - 80's, right across the creek from Stanford Shopping Center and the university. I don't remember Kepler's, but I can easily imagine Joan Baez visiting the area. Hey, thanks for the memories!
