I feel the same way. I get burned out on celebrates pretty quickly, even the ones I like and defend sometimes.

Just not much into the sports hero thing. I would rather people that do worthwhile things to be the ones that make the money and get a little of the attention.

4. Once upon a time someone posted a recipe for fried chicken in the lounge

and suggested using corn flakes instead of bread crumbs. You wouldn't believe the flamewar that ensued. Same thing happened when someone admitted to eating at the Olive Garden.

Allow me to explain.

That was not a real flame war. Or that is to say, neither myself or the other party involved gave one shit about how chicken is fried or with what.

It was a continuation of the GD 2004 primaries flame wars into the Lounge. The criticism of frying chicken with cornflakes was just passive-aggressive primary battling gone awry. It was stupid and wrong, but it was also not really about fried chicken and cornflakes. It was fake outrage such as, "You fry chicken with CORN FLAKES? WTF?" or "You're fucking kidding! That's NOT how you fry chicken..." etc. But it was TOTAL and UNADULTERATED bullshit.

I was part of that misunderstood fiasco, and I take my lumps. I long ago apologized to the wronged party.

The fact that an entire DU myth has evolved as a result of that bullshit is a perfect example of how people will believe ANYTHING as long as the lie keeps repeating long enough. Every time it comes up, I explain this again and again, and STILL the myth persists.

So you newbies reading this: don't believe it for a second. No one in the history of DU ever gave a shit about how chicken is fried.

I stayed COMPLETELY out of those. I do think they're authentic flame wars, however. But I steered CLEAR.

I haven't been involved in a real flame war since the infamous one I started on race car kiddie shopping carts some 6 or 7 years ago. :D
