I have a feeling Allstate is going to try to fuck me.

A few weeks ago I dented my bumper when I hit a raccoon. I met with the insurance lady last week and she told me that Allstate would write me a check to get it repaired (not replaced). But, if the repair job is unsatisfactory, the repair guy can call them and they will pay to have it replaced. The critical thing is that they repair it first.

So, I went to a body shop today and the guy pretty much told me point blank that he will not do the work because he knows Allstate will try to fuck him by forcing him to do the repair job (which he knows will be unsatisfactory because it's impossible to repair and paint plastic) and then refuse to let him replace it. So, I called my agent and she said to try another repair shop tomorrow.

The problem is though, how can I honestly ask the body shop guy to do a job that will look like shit when he's done and then try to force him to fight with Allstate? It's fucking him over, and more than likely I'll be fucked over with an unsatisfactory repair job.

If it makes you feel any better, they fuck over everybody. (I just took a loss in a settlement with them and I even had an attorney -- still got screwed.)

3. Allstate is the biggest scam going

I'm sorry and I hope your outcome is different than ours. They screwed us out of $4000 on our obviously hail-damaged roof. Every neighbor of ours has a new roof, except us and another Allstate customer (victim) down the block. Once you file a claim, you are the enemy.

I somehow have to convince the repair man to enter into a contract on bad faith. He's supposed to agree to repair a car that he knows he can't satisfactorily repair (risking his reputation) just so he can fight with an insurance company (that will probably turn him down) so he can do the job right. If I were a repair man I wouldn't take that risk.

9. I wish I had a better solution or a better story

Fight them as much as you can, but it looks like you have appropriately low expectations. Again, I'm sorry. They weasel out of everything, but apparently don't have issues cashing your checks. During our ordeal I heard all sorts of Allstate horror stories. I wonder how they manage to stay in business.

It became clear to us what was going to happen, so we tried to cost them as much as possible, filed complaints with our impotent state insurance office, and wasted as much of their time and money as possible.

Another tactic is, if you are on Facebook, you can become a "fan" and complain in their comments. Some of their customer satisfaction people might pay attention enough to help you out after you make some noise. Again, I wouldn't bank on anything changing. With us, it was clear that everyone was in on it (including our worthless agent) and their strategy was to circle the wagons until we went away.
