As a follow up, post things that don't suck about this otherwise crappy decade.
Again, I'll start:

Bookending Democratic Presidents (even when they haven't been perfect, they sure as hell beat 8 years of George W. Bush):

A handful of excellent, non-reality television shows:

A few needle in the haystack great rock bands in an otherwise dismal decade for rock music:

The Marlins winning the 2003 World Series:

The Ravens winning Super Bowl 35:

And as I mentioned in the other post, in the 2000s I graduated, got married, became a father, became a homeowner, started my career, met some great friends, and took some great trips. And knock on wood I've managed to stay healthy throughout.

1. I'd just say TV
Mad Men, Dexter, the Wire, Arrested Development, Firefly, Six Feet Under, Battlestar Galactica, House, the (sadly departed) Journeyman, the American version of the Office, 30 Rock, The Daily Show coming into its own and the Colbert Report, and the Sopranos.

It's been a very good decade for the tele-junkies among us.

3. May I add to that list...
Countdown with Keith Olbermann, The Rachel Maddow Show, and Monk? Most of the series put out by HBO have been good, including Carnivale and Number One Ladies Detective Agency. The same goes for their films, documentaries and mini-series. I wish they would have continued with Carnivale... Every time I consider dumping HBO, they come up with something else I want to see. Next March: The Pacific.

You are right that it's been a good decade. Most of what's out there is pure crap, especially "reality TV", but there are some gems among the poo.

5. Ach, I forgot all the news shows!
And Monk. My sister is a Monk-fanatic.

6. This is tough
The Wire best show ever imo.

I really love the addition of the two fastest players to 500 career receptions.
2003-present Anquan Boldin/2004-present Larry Fitzgerald

Also as an Arizona State fan you might appreciate this as a Ravens fan.

That is Terrell Suggs setting the NCAA single season sack record in 2002.

7. I had to think...
But I'd say the Maryland Men's basketball team winning the National Championship in 2001. Going to Maryland during the dark era following the death of Len Bias and right after the NCAA sanctions, it was quite a comeback for them.

12. True, but the sad thing about that is....
...too often this decade we've had to get our best political punditry from comedians, and the "pundits" that the actual news channels offer are nothing but buffoons.

11. I agree. Despite the world being horrible during the Bush years..
Edited on Sat Dec-12-09 12:09 PM by mvd
the pop, singer/songwriter, and indie scenes are pretty good. Rock music could still be better. Older artists like U2, Pearl Jam, and Bruce Springsteen are making much of the good rock music. Artists like Green Day, Metric, and the Donnas rock, though. Oh, and the Phils won a championship. :-)

I will have my best albums of 2009 list out soon. Have to hear more albums. The list will likely be out after the holidays.
