Christopher Robin and I walked along

Under branches lit up by the moon
Posing our questions to Owl and Eeyore
As our days disappeared all too soon
But I wandered much further today than I should
And I can't find my way to the three-acre wood

So help me if you can I've got to get
Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one
You'd be surprised there's so much to be done
Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
Back to the days of Christopher Robin
And Pooh

Winnie The Pooh doesn't know what to do
Got a hunny jar stuck on his nose
He came to me asking help and advice
And from here no one knows where he goes
So I sent him to ask of the Owl if he's there
How to loosen a jar from the nose of a bear

So help me if you can I've got to get
Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one
You'd be surprised there's so much to be done
Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
Back to the days of Christopher Robin
Back to the ways of Christopher Robin
Back to the days of Pooh

2. When I die and they lay me to rest

Gonna go to the place that's the best
When I lay me down to die
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best

Prepare yourself you know it's a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky
Gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky
That's where you're gonna go when you die
When you die and they lay you to rest
You're gonna go to the place that's the best

Never been a sinner I never sinned
I got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He's gonna set me up with
The spirit in the sky
Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best
Go to the place that's the best

4. I played a wedding for the money,

And I wished that I could tell the bride and groom
Just what I thought of marriage
And what’s in store after their honeymoon.

And I was grumblin’ to the dancers
’bout how men and women ought to live apart
And how a promise never made can not be broken
And can never break your heart

When suddenly from out of nowhere,
A little girl came dancing ’cross the floor,
And all her crinolines were billowing
Beneath the skirt of calico that she wore.
Oh what a joy fell on the honored guests
As each of them was drawn inside her dream,
And they laughed and clapped and stomped their feet
And hollered at her dance little jean

Dance, little jean, this day is for you,
Two people you love, stood up and said I do
Dance little jean, the prayer that you had
Was answered today
Your mama’s marrying your dad

Well, my cynical heart just melted
’cause I knew what this get together meant
How it ended year of tears and sad confusion
That the little girl had spent.
Well they told the band to pack it up
About the time the couple cut the cake,
But we played as long as they stayed
For love and laughs and little jeanie’s sake.

Dance, little jean, this day is for you,
Two people you love, stood up and said I do
Dance little jean, the prayer that you had
Was answered today
Your mama’s marrying your dad

5. Liberty 1983. And speaking of party songs....
He told it to the monkeys and they didn't talk back
Then he told the old iguana and he didn't attack

They told me before I started,
This never ever would work out
Stay in school, dont be a fool,
But I had to see what life was about,
So I went to the Biloxi seeeking fortune and fame,
I got hired, I got fired, I got called dirty names,
You'll never, (never)
Never, (never)
Work in dis business again,
You will never, (never)
Never (never)
Work in dis business again

I knew I needed representation,
I found it one night in a bar,
He was a bondsman and a part time agent,
He said that he could make me a star,
He said,
"You don't have to be that good,
To make it out in Hollywood,
You just have to change and complain."
Or you'll never, (never)
Never (never)
Work in this business again,
Oh you'll never, (never)
Never (never)
Work in this business again.

(Instrumental)

I parked cars at the Rainbow,
I sold maps of the stars,
I had my nose broken at Spago's
When I puked on the bar

All I played's a double bar mitzvah
Bubba played a double bar mitzvah

It's a jungle out there
We love it
Hell, I don't care
I'm going back to my predator friends
I will never,
Never (never)
Work in dis bidness again
No, I'll never, (never)
No never, (never)
Never work in this bidness again
You'll never, (never)
Never work in this bidness again.

AGAIN!

6. There she sits buddy just a-gleaming in the sun,

There to greet a working man when his day is done
I’m gonna pack my pa and I’m gonna pack my aunt,
I’m gonna take them down to the cadillac ranch.

El dorado fins, whitewalls and skirts;
Rides just like a little bit of heaven here on earth.
When I die, buddy, throw my body in the back,
Take me to the junkyard in my cadillac.

Cadillac, cadillac,
Long and dark, shiny and black
Open up your engines let `em roar
Tearing up the highway like a big old dinosaur

James dean in a mercury `49
Junior johnson runnin’ in the woods of caroline
Even burt reynolds in a black trans am
Are gonna meet me down at the cadillac ranch

Cadillac, cadillac
Long and dark, shiny and black
Open up your engines, let ’em roar
Tearin’ up the highway like a big old dinosaur

Hey little girlie in the blue jeans so tight
Drivin’ all alone in a colorado night
You’re my last love, baby, you’re my last chance
Don’t let `em take me down to the cadillac ranch

Cadillac, cadillac...
Long and dark, shiny and black;
Open up them engines, let ’em roar;
Tearin’ up the highway like a big old dinosaur

Funny! I just read a book recently called "Cadillac Beach". Some guy recommended it. He has a weird sense of humor, LOL. Bent.

9. Hey, where did we go

Days when the rains came ?
Down in the hollow
Playing a new game,
Laughing and a-running, hey, hey,
Skipping and a-jumping
In the misty morning fog with
Our, our hearts a-thumping
And you, my brown-eyed girl,

You, my brown-eyed girl.
Whatever happened
To Tuesday and so slow
Going down to the old mine with a
Transistor radio.
Standing in the sunlight laughing
Hide behind a rainbow's wall,
Slipping and a-sliding
All along the waterfall
With you, my brown-eyed girl,
You, my brown-eyed girl.

Do you remember when we used to sing
Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah
Just like that
Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah
La dee dah.

So hard to find my way
Now that I'm all on my own.
I saw you just the other day,
My, how you have grown!
Cast my memory back there, Lord,
Sometime I'm overcome thinking about
Making love in the green grass
Behind the stadium
With you, my brown-eyed girl,
You, my brown-eyed girl.

Do you remember when we used to sing
Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah
Laying in the green grass
Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah
Dee dah dee dah dee dah dee dah dee dah dee
Sha la la la la la la la la la la la la
Dee dah la dee dah la dee dah la
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d...

12. Now the seats are all empty

Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come and last to leave
Working for that minimum wage
They'll set it up in another town
Tonight the people were so fine
They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet they made the show
And that was sweet--
But I can hear the sound
Of slamming doors and folding chairs
And that's a sound they'll never know

Now roll them cases out and lift them amps
Haul them trusses down and get'em up them ramps
'Cause when it comes to moving me
You guys are the champs
But when that last guitar's been packed away
You know that I still want to play
So just make sure you got it all set to go
Before you come for my piano

But the band's on the bus
And they're waiting to go
We've got to drive all night and do a show in Chicago
or Detroit, I don't know
We do so many shows in a row
And these towns all look the same
We just pass the time in our hotel rooms
And wander 'round backstage
Till those lights come up and we hear that crowd
And we remember why we came

Now we got country and western on the bus
R and B, we got disco in eight tracks and cassettes in stereo
We've got rural scenes & magazines
We've got truckers on the CB
We've got Richard Pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play

People you've got the power over what we do
You can sit there and wait
Or you can pull us through
Come along, sing the song
You know you can't go wrong
'Cause when that morning sun comes beating down
You're going to wake up in your town
But we'll be scheduled to appear
A thousand miles away from here
People stay just a little bit longer
We want to play -- just a little bit longer
Now the promoter don't mind
And the union don't mind
If we take a little time
And we leave it all behind and sing
One more song--

17. The remake with Amy Grant was terrific.
I didn't think house at pooh corner could be any better, but the new version with another stanza came out when my children were quite young and it did hit home with me.
