2. levis. the fabric has higher bursting strength & lower weave deformations.
i used to sell finishing chemicals to both companies, levis have to pass higher standards for the fabrics to be accepted as "levis" jean material.

levis also have better seam strength properties than wranglers and their zippers are stronger

3. I still prefer the Levi 'fit'. However, they don't last as long
as they used to. 30 years ago they seemed a LOT more durable than they do today. Ralph Lauren holds up better for me nowadays.

:-)

4. if they are "stone washed" they are damaged by enzymatic action
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 01:05 AM by kodi
it breaks down the fibers/yarns to give that faded look.

also, 30 years ago all cotton jean fabrics were made from "ring spun yarns" which make tighter and stronger yarns and subsequent fabrics, albeit they were more expensive to make than the current "open end spun yarns" which are faster to spin and make looser, weaker yarns and fabrics.

i dont play a professor of material science on tv, i was one.

13. I Use Salt
Throw in a handful of salt with the first wash to break down the stiffness and start the natural fading process. I don't know why it works, but it does.

7. Levis
but they aren't what they used to be. I usually buy Tommy Hilfiger's now--the denim is unbelievably soft.

9. No-brands
Bought at no-brand, mom & pop stores. Why spend more money just to worship at the altar of consumerism?

By the way, jeans are the best piece of attire ever invented.

14. Amusing (kind of) story. I used to buy the Levi unwashed blue
jeans for my husband. Because they were cheap and they fit him well. Well round about 6 years ago, teenagers took a liking to them. Levi relabeled them "hard jeans" and upped the price from around $13.00 to $60.00. What a joke! Anyway, MrGrumpy now wears plain old boot cut Wranglers. We were pretty irked. :hi:

15. Long Haul!
The trucker's friend. Unfortunately all imported. http://www.longhauljeans.com.

I need a belt with my Long Hauls--I'm 31 waist and 34 inseam; their pants start at 32--but they're great when you spend all day on a forklift like I do sometimes.
