Apartment etiquette question

If there is a load of clothes that have been left abandoned in the dryer, how long does
one have to wait before feeling free to take them out an put them in the laundry basket
that's sitting on the dryer?

1. are they dry? two minutes

wet? I'd wait 30 minutes to see if somebody comes to finish, and if not I would put them in the basket - maybe leave a polite note

2. I waited a hour and a half.

They were very dry so I put them in a basket and but my clothes into dry. If I feel like it, if the person
hasn't shown up when I'm done. I may put her cloth back in the dryer when I'm done. :D

4. If they're cool, they go in the basket

I don't have time to faff around waiting for lamers to get their laundry.

5. The downstairs neighbors and i have a cooperative relatonship with that...

There are 4 of us in our place, plus 3 more folks downstairs. Whoever has laundry in leaves their basket, and everything gets moved along, including folding others' dry stuff (as long as it's not underwear or lingerie).

We've been here for 5 months, and with rare exception it's worked pretty well for all so far.

6. If you've waited 15 minutes or so, I would say it's okay to move

the clothes to the laundry basket.

When I had to use the laundry, I would go across the street to the bagel deli to get something to eat. Sometimes I overstayed my time, and when I got back, my clothes were in the laundry basket. I was cool with that; I was embarrassed that I let time get away from me.

7. If it's dry, I don't wait.

Even if there isn't a laundry basket; I just put it on top the dryer. When I lived in an apartment building with a shared laundry, I would often fold the other person's laundry up after I loaded up the dryer, and then in hindsight I wondered if they liked it or felt invaded.

When ya gotta do your laundry, sometimes you just gotta get it done!

That's the price you pay for letting it sit and I fully accept that. If you want your laundry to be in the dryer when it is done then be there when it is done.

9. No wait required, if they are dry. Unless they are undies.

If no other dryers are available, it's perfectly acceptable. The owner of the clothes would do it to yours, and expects it done to theirs.

Undies change things, of course. The brighter and skimpier, the more you must use your own judgement. :)
