Is that a reference to Orville and Wilber Wright's sister Gertrude, who became one of the two inaugural members of the Mile High Club?

5. Gustave Whitehead may have flown in 1899 in Pittsburgh
After crashing and being forbidden to continue his experiments there, he moved to Connecticut where he may have flown before the Wright brothers did.
