1. The Scream guy?
This is pretty nice. Didn't know it had been stolen.

2. Scream and Madonna were stolen together, recovered together.
I don't know that the crime has been solved, but at least the art was recovered.

For some reason, I find myself posting art works by artists who died in 1944 in Nazi occupied Europe.

Believe it or not, when Munch died, the Nazis put together a huge state funeral, which understandably pissed many Norwegians off.

Norwegians went out of their way to hide Munch's paintings from Nazi looters, and managed to hide all but eleven, which were looted, taken to Germany and never recovered. They may have been destroyed in the war.

Yesterday's "dead in 1944 under Nazi occupation artist" was Felix Nussbaum, who died at Auschwitz.

It goes without saying that the Nazis didn't have a funeral procession for Nussbaum.

4. I can't imagine that that sort of thing was popular in 1895. I'd guess it's a shadow, but I am not
qualified to make a definitive argument.

Of course no one can ask Munch, who might have known, since he's dead.

7. My dear NNadir...
Wow...she's something else, isn't she?

Full of life, she is.

I love her expression too. As well as her submissive posture.

Thank you for this great painting!

:hi:

8. "Madonna" is way ahead of its time.
John Singer Sargeant and James McNeill Whistler would have had a shit-fit if they saw portraiture like that!

I like it, though... ;-)
