1. should work fine if your TV has the standard video input jacks
I just got one but haven't hooked it up yet because I haven't had time to move my "entertainment center" and get to the plugs on the back of the TV.

Have you watched the Netflix movies on your computer? I have to think that the quality is roughly as good as that. Probably about the level of VHS at this point, but I'm guessing it will continue to improve over time.

Another option might be to get a Playstation 3, which should stream video from Neflix, play Blu-Ray and DVDs, plus video games of course. Then you'll be ready if you decide to upgrade to an HDTV at some point.

2. I think the oldest video output format that the Roku player supports is composite video.
So that type of video input uses a single (typically yellow) RCA cable for video and two (typically red and white) RCA cables for audio. I think pretty much all TVs made in the past 12 or more years have at least a composite video input. If your television only has an RF input (the screw type connection), then you'd need to get an adapter that would allow you to hook it up to a composite source.

3. Here is a composite to RF converter.

If your TV only has an RF input, this converter will allow you to hook up a Roku player.

4. I would actiually look at getting a Blu-ray player
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 02:42 PM by whistler162
that is capable of Netflix. They, depending on where you get it, $50 or $60 more. If there are inputs Red/White/Yellow on the TV then either will work.

Check your local Radio Shack for the Samsung Blu-Ray player, was on clearance/sale, at the one near me.

But, the ROKU player is nice, I have had since they came out.

6. Thanks for the info, all.
I've been watching streaming movies on my computers, and that's worked out well. The next question is, should I get the cheapest one or get the more s=expensive model--someday I may spring for an HDTV. However, how much difference will it make if the film is older, anyway?
