1. My folks got me one of these.
?t=1261780190

1941 Mosin Nagant 7.62 x54r, just like this with all the accoutrements.

Needs to gone over, cleaned up, and the head space checked, but overall a nice addition to my collection.

5. Yeah, I mentioned in passing at the last gun show to Dad that I was thinking of getting one.
And he went the following month and picked one up for me.

The price is right on these pieces of history right now.

43. people know I don't care much for gifts
I get people to send a care package to the troops via anysoldier.com - I get 'em the flat rate box, pick a group from the list, fill the package with items that group has requested, then I do the customs forms and mailing. The packages can be very cheap if I know the person is not well off financially (for example, a few bags of Twizzlers). Sometimes it's clothes for the Afghani and Iraqi kids. I've got one ready to go that has EIGHT POUNDS OF JERKY! Woooo! That kind of stuff! The coolest thing is, many people continue doing this. :D

6. Got these from my husband...

Also, received a NetFlix subscription from my Aunt, cash from the folks and grandparents, some earrings from my grandmother, tupperware set and scarf/hat/gloves set. My husband received a ridiculous number of gift cards from the parents of the kids in his class so we will enjoy those the next few days as well. I have already watched two movies on NetFlix today.

12. I received:
a beautiful necklace from my parents - it has pearls and is very unique
a couple of books
santa figurine (to add to my collection)
some other cute christmas decoration and ornament type things
a couple of gift cards
a candle
pajamas
socks
$1,000 cash - 20 fifty dollar bills this year(dad tries to do it in a different way every year and wraps it so you do not know it is money or a check - a couple of years it was all $100 bills - I like the years he just writes a check - I am hoping he never decides to do it in all one dollar bills)

Edited on Fri Dec-25-09 07:35 PM by LeftyMom
A new camera from my sister, and some money from my dad.

The sewing machine looks just like this: http://www.mulewagon.com/product/136112/Singer-Model-66-Treadle-Sewing-Machine--Red-Eye--7-Drawer_974552.html except that mine is in even better shape. I'll take pics of mine later, I don't want to have to rearrange half of my room to get to it just now.

My sister got my Grandmother's old treadle - I will get it back somehow, love that machine - way better than any half plastic modern POS. I sewed a lot of clothes, a lot of summers on that thing.

25. I picked up a Featherweight for $5 at a thrift shop in Portland last month too.
I <3 old sewing machines. I have a modern New Home I learned to sew on and now mostly use for special stitches and an 80's Pfaff serger my mother gave me, but for most things I'd rather sew on the treadle or the featherweight.

more useful than a car, I guess. It's been a pretty good machine. Never used a serger.

27. Supposedly the newer sergers are pretty handy.
This one I seem to manage a ratio of, at best, five minutes of sewing to twenty minutes of finicky adjustments.

33. We've reached the age/stage of life where we don't need anything
We're down-sizing and recycling and have stopped exchanging with anyone except children, grandchildren and each other. I got the pants and nightgown I wanted from LL Bean, Mr. 30s got a denim shirt and some computer stuff. Children gave us gift certificates to Amazon, will look for what we need, towels, glasses, books.

both sets of parents were in the 'giving with a warm hand instead of a cold one' mood...so we'll be able to retire every debt except the mortgage, and have enough left over to keep THAT current for the next year...and hopefully my wife will be able to find gainful employment by then.(her job went away in september, and i became permanently diasbled a dozen years ago.)

Edited on Sat Dec-26-09 03:20 AM by AsahinaKimi
Its the same thing every year.
Santa shakes his fist at the Buddhist Girl as he drives his sleigh by.
Its just how things are.. New Years is always better for me.
I get a red packet of money in the mail. Its a tradition!
Maybe this year I will get my College tuition for the semester!

37. Most important thing: the nicest, most fun Christmas gathering with CMW's family:
CMW, his mom, his sister and her partner, our goddaughters and the eldest goddaughter's boyfriend. Lots of good conversation and laughter, a yummy dinner and family gift exchange (which we don't usually do, except for with the goddaughters). Also, wonderful, long telephone conversations with my mom, dad, sister, brother and nephew in the US. :)

Less important, but still very nice, I received some lovely gifts, including:

From Ginger (and CMW), picking them up on Monday

From CMW

Hand-turned fountain pen of box elder wood from a very generous friend

These Swarovski earrings from my sister-in-law

Also gave my wife some very good jewelery, thus getting a happy wife for christmas.

41. Money, a tee-shirt and food.
It could be better. It's a large sum of money but I have to live off it until my job starts on the 11th and I get paid on Feb. 1 so no fun-money for me. I don't get the t-shirt, I think it was given with alterior motives. The food was nice but really when it's the only gift you're going to receive...it comes as a bit of a let-down.

(I want absurdly-impractical cool-shite I'd never buy for me for the holidays. Those are the types of gifts I buy for others.)
