Found a gym today that charges $15 per month
Edited on Sun Dec-27-09 04:14 PM by graywarrior
Has everything I need. Clean, efficient, nearby. $10 extra per month for spinning or other classes. The YMCA is way too expensive these days.

What is everyone else paying around the DU community?

1. My dear graywarrior!
Wow, you rule!

I have no idea what we pay; my husband takes care of it. It's nowhere near as good a rate as yours, though, I bet...

Congrats, sweetie!

2. I just joined one this month.
It's for age 50 and over, normally $540 annually for best membership. Due to income sensitive program I have the whole enchilada for $120 annually.

So far I have found that members much older than me can outperform me by leaps and bounds. How humiliating.

Here's the web site: http://www.thecbcenter.org/

I am doing the beginner stuff like balance, formula for fitness, osteo ball, and a workout routine on the machines (weights, treadmill, bicycles, etc.)

4. Don't be humiliated.
If they've been going a while, that's perfectly natural. My mother who is seventy-something years old was transformed (by me) into a gym rat 8 or so years ago. She lifts more than most of the men there that haven't been members for at least a couple years, and on a treadmill she can't be caught.

12. I'm half kidding about how they outperform me. I just started,
and the older gals are good sports about how clumsy I am. Guess I have to start somewhere!

The classes start over in January, so the new class will have beginners like me. :-)

13. If they're good sports, then you have another HUGE benefit there.
They'll likely help you out if you need it.

The best thing is that you've started.

14. Oh my yes, it's a very friendly and helpful atmosphere, clients and staff.
Just seems ironic that I'm the youngest one in my classes so far and I barely last 10 minutes but the older gals shake some serious bootie, for 30 - 45 minutes!! Just goes to show how badly I need to get started.

For me, the exercise helps with depression, keeps my mind off craving a cig, and hopefully results in some badly needed weight loss. I am also joining "The Biggest Loser" contest next month. That should be interesting.

8. That looks nice!
I've been away from running for about 5 weeks but was able to run on the treadmill for 40 minutes without feeling any pain or tiredness. Pretty good for an old fart.

3. $30/month for one gym. I go to 3 other different gyms for free, though.
One is a sponsorship, the other two are because I bring them clients.

7. I'd gladly pay twice that, especially if the gym would vouch that I
had been there when I hadn't.

If I were forced to attend, I wouldn't pay $10 a month. As Mark Twain said, "I've never seen any advantage in being tired."
