Today I spent a half hour buying tassels.
I was near the corner of 59th St and 3rd Ave in Manhattan when I saw a sign in the window that read "All Items $2.99". What the heck, we went in. It turns out all this store sells is tassels (and trim). It's moving to the West Side in a couple of weeks and indeed every item was $2.99. I asked the woman who buys all these tassels and she pointed out all the designers down the block. She has a fair amount of walkins as well. I asked her where she got her tassels and she lamented there are no commercial tassel makers left in the country anymore and she imports them from all over. She said she was from Rhode Island

Intrigued, I spent a nice bit of time looking at her tassels. Quite a variety. The product of astounding workmanship and patience. We ended up buying two tassels and four yards of trim. Maybe we'll put them around the living room window by this time next year. My daughters also bought a tassel for their doorknob. I told her we may be back. She warned me they'll be a lot more expensive next time.

My favorite one looks soemthing like this:

If you're in the market for tassels, look up Cody's Tassels and Trim at their new location on the West Side.

My life is an adventure.

1. Okay, this is spooky.
A week before Christmas, I also bought two tassels. Mine are smaller and not nearly as pretty as your score, but I only need mine for an illustration project. (They're kind of a burnt sienna color; sorry for the crappy iPhone photo.) :D

3. They're nice tassels.
I can honestly say, before yesterday, I had not consumed more than one minute of my life considering tassels. What other objects are out there?

5. Hahahahahahahaha!
Well, alrighty then. This tassel situation just opens up a whole new world for you, doesn't it, rug?

P.S. To be honest, I also had a completely tassel-free existence until I began this illustration project, which has plunged me headlong into the frilly underworld of tassels, ribbons, sateen fabrics, etc. :shudder:

2. When my parents were first married back in the late 1940's they
went shopping for living room furniture at a place called Wing Furniture somewhere in Manhattan. The salesman was Mr. Lanzano. (My dad always had a good memory for details.) Anyhow, they were looking at various items and were ready to purchase a big comfortable living room chair - except that my dad didn't like the tassels attached to the arms. Mr. Lanzano, desperate not to lose the sale, came up with this never-to-be-forgotten (by my family) gem - "But sir," he said, "tassels denote regency!" To this day every time I see a tassel I think of that little furniture store episode. Thanks for the memory.

7. Those are very nice -
My first job out of school was working in NYC for a fabric and wallpaper company, Brunschwig & Fils. I have a decent eye for color, so one of my assignments was color checking new shipments of material, wallpaper and tassels to the standard samples. Usually the tassels were fine, but once in a while a shipment was not up to standard and I had to go over to the company who made them (it was just a few blocks away) and discuss the problem with them. It was fun to get out of the office for an hour or so.

8. It's amazing how many industries are underfoot and nobody notices.
After 5 minutes in that sore I felt like I was in Diagon Alley.
