And today I'm sitting here sweating...Window open, fan blasting...God, I hate this campus. If they would quit catering to the old skinny bitches that work in the other buildings and start catering to their paying customers, they might get a better turn out for applicants. :grr:

2. That's something I disliked about my dorm, also.

The inability to control the temperature in your room. It was always blazing hot in there in the winter and the only thing we could do was open the window. That didn't help any because the window was so small. I guess they made them like that so no stressed and depressed students would take a dive, but it felt like hell in there in the winter.

We're in Weatherford. Which is just as armpitty, but bigger.
And yes, this place is a HOLE! I've been telling them that for YEARS!

5. my college was on steam heating
and there was one furance at the far end of the campus. it took so long for the heat to work its way up all the pipes to the far dorms that they turned it on based on the date and not the actual weather.

this is when it worked at all. it was the most inefficient heating system.

6. I can sympathize
It's nowhere near 80 here, probably mid 60's, but the frickin heat in the office is still set in mid December mode (hell, even December wasn't that cold this winter). I got the fan going, but if this keeps up, I'm going to start wearing shorts to work.

8. Back in the old days

When my husband and I first moved in together 13 years ago (OMG, makes me feel old!), we lived in this shitty apartment with radiators and the heat was impossible to control, so even when it was 30 degrees outside, it would be 85 degrees inside, but we could be young, wild and naked. which got us into trouble. :)

Anyway, probably another boring story. Hope they get this stuff straitened out. It does not sound fun.

10. Just be glad you don't have to pay for it!!
I have a small town house, and my heating bill for February was $215. And it was still cold as shit in here. Gas heat pumps suck!

But I'm one of those people that can deal with the cold....heat on the other had pisses me off. It's against my religion to sweat.

16. Ahh, "Community Utilities"
I lived in an old apartment building that had "All bills paid"

That's nice and all, but that means there is NO CONTROL over the system...

18. Ahh, dorm living!
My freshman year I had the only halfway livable room on my floor -- because our heating unit somehow didn't work! I'm not sure if it was a blockage of some sort or if the vent rusted into the "closed" position, but with it broken, we got just enough heat to keep reasonably warm, while everyone else was sweating profusely despite having the windows open even during blizzards. I had to beg my roommate not to report the problem to maintenance.

Even more interesting was the suite style residence I lived in the next two years; each suite was three bedrooms (two residents apiece) plus a common area and shared bathroom. One would think that the thermostat would be in the common room, but one would be wrong -- it was always in one of the bedrooms, which of course could be locked. Nothing quite so much fun as when the thermostat-controlling roommates would leave for the weekend having turned the heat way up or, alternatively, completely off. Finally moved to a converted brownstone my senior year; we had central heat somehow delivered through the old radiator system, it seemed (but the radiators didn't work like actual radiators), and each room could be individually controlled -- heaven! And the windows actually opened, so it didn't matter that we had no AC (don't really need it much during the school year in Boston anyhow).
