1. Phobia's what?
You're using the word as a possessive term.

2. I don't know quite where it is,
But somewhere up there is the difference between height (which scares the willies outa me) and altitude (which really doesn't bother me).

7. I can understand that, since I live here
;)

I just get pissed off with most of the other drivers. They're either dangerously over-cautious, or dangerously reckless. There isn't much in-between.

4. similar--bridges ( but only long ones, and over water)
Escalators are OK, but elevators creep me out, (but getting better ; a little anyway) ...cliffs ( and used to be utterly fearless this way; maybe this phobia started from one too many encounters in mountains including one where I literally was hanging by an unstable branch off the side of about a 50 or 100 foot cliff above solid rock. To this day, I have no idea how I managed to scramble back up to safety). I do have a fear of flying, and have not flown in over 30 years. Oddly, I'm not the least bit fearful of being on a ski lift; I guess I figure I've got skis on and I'm above snow,so no matter how high off the ground we are, it doesn't faze me, which is irrational too.

5. Confined underground spaces.
I'm ok in large tunnels or caverns, but the tight stuff spooks me. Could barely watch The Decent.

8. Heights
I don't mind climbing a tree, but going out on the ledge of a 12 story building would scare the hell out of me. I love to fly in airplanes. But those damn high buildings that have those glass like floors where you can see down, would kill me. I would never, ever, ever go here:

16. I think it's actually fear of falling...
Someone I know always thought she had a fear of heights. Then she wound up working on a woodpecker study, which required her to climb high up in trees on a ladder. She wore a harness that prevented her from falling, and after she realized that she wouldn't fall, she had no issues going 40 or 50 feet or more up that ladder. (These were really big trees, and the woodpecker cavities were way up there.) She realized she was more afraid of falling than she was afraid of being up high. I know that's my problem, too

I don't know if I could handle that Grand Canyon structure, either. But, I'm willing to give it a shot. If I was convinced that it was well-constructed and stable, I think I would be okay--just as I, too, am okay with flying. I know I can't fall out of the airplane. Now, if I could only find a way to go up on my roof to clean off the pine needles without getting sick to my stomach....

12. Lightning.
It's just so harsh and abusive. It's also sudden. And even if a person survives a hit, they are rarely ever the same again for the rest of their lives.

I've had so many close calls with lightning, I'm surprised I'm still here typing about it.

To me, it's like a combination of being on fire and being electrocuted and being hit by a speeding truck.

And if your not wearing sunglasses, it can be kind of blinding.

Plus, it's really loud.

Mine is driving over a bridge that arches up like an upside-down V. I hate approaching the curve, because I can't see what's on the other side.

Like the Sunshine Skyway Bridge

And Ferris wheels. But not roller coasters!

14. Mine are pretty much the same.
Add stairs with no backs in them, balconies, glass elevators.

I can't even look at a picture of a high, scary place without getting weak-kneed. :scared:
