Can someone help me with an Ebay question?
Edited on Tue Dec-29-09 08:36 PM by Holly_Hobby
I'm interested in buying a ring from a seller. My wedding ring was stolen during a mugging, so I have insurance money to help me replace it.

I have very little experience with Ebay. I've sent the seller 3 messages with questions, but no response.

I would like to make an offer, not necessarily bid on it. Does anyone know if I can make more than one offer if the first isn't accepted? I'm so confused...

Thanks.

I believe the ring is worth only around $500, because the seller is liquidating it from a pawn broker. But I'm willing to pay $700 if I have to. It's listing for $973, on sale from $1,300.

1. I don't think you can "make an offer" behind the scenes. Against the rules.

8. Yes, the seller uses that approach when he is not sure that he will...
get any hits on his buy it now price.

I've made offers before...it usually works out well.

Your bigger problem, though, is the fact that the seller is not responding to you. Check his feedback closely.

2. I think when they have "make an offer"...
The seller will then choose to accept or reject the offer. If accepted, you must pay what you offered. If rejected, you can then make another, higher offer.

3. I would not buy from a seller who does not respond to questions.
If you have a problem with the merchandise, shipping issue, the item isn't what you expected, etc, you're certainly not going to have an easier time getting a response from that person once they already have your money.

12. I've done a lot of buying on eBay, but I NEVER buy from a seller
who won't respond to an e-mail.

There are plenty of reputable jewelry sellers on eBay. Keep looking. And ONLY buy from
someone who is willing to take merchandise back AND be sure to have your local jeweler
look at the ring to verify you are getting what was described.

4. I second the motion that
this seller sounds shady. Don't buy from someone who won't answer questions for you, it's just bad mojo (and if you have any problems, you probably are only less likely to get a response).

9. Take your money and run
Never, too many scams/crooks on ebay.
Look local,
You've already lost your ring, you don't want to loose your money, or end up with a piece of worthless jewelry.
Read about ebay/craigslist scams.
please don't........especially from a liquidating pawn shop....

11. You can make an offer if the button is there
And they can accept it or not. Assuming they do so before the thing closes, you can go back and do it again. For more or less.

I also question the wisdom of purchasing from someone who does not respond to questions on something that expensive. It sucks getting suckered on a $6 scooby doo watch, but you are looking at a lot more money. What kind of feedback does the seller have? I tried looking up the price, thinking there couldn't be that many rings for that exact price, but I was wrong

13. Go to a local large flea market or similar antiques or old stuff sale place, and
bring your check book. You will be able to see exactly what you are getting, have no shipping or insurance costs and you will get a better deal after christmas. We got our engagement ring - an unused 1930's gold and platinum 3/4 karat diamond ring- at a coin dealer's shop in a flea market for under $400.

14. make sure you're contacting them properly.
the seller may NOT be shady, but may not be receiving your questions.

But just in case, find out where they were the night of the mugging.
