Those of you who do the 'Twitter.' Explain the controversy of the new style of 'retweet.'

I'm a Twitter virgin. I'm learning the basics of Twitter for a career thing.

From my perspective of a newbie, I don't get what the big deal is.

Anyone?

1. You can't tell from whom it came

On twitter you 'follow' certain people. With the new style of retweet available you get the retweet from one of the people you follow, but you can't tell who sent it. Just who originated it to begin with. The other night I got a retweet that was originally posted by Roger Ebert, but I have no way of knowing which of the 54 people I follow is the one who retweeeted it. All I can know is one of those 54 people retweeted his tweet to all the people who follow them.

Conversely an advantage of it would be that I can retweet something I like to the 84 people who follow me. They will see who originated it such as '1handle', but they will be unable to determine which of the people they follow actually retweeted it to them.

I am not an expert, but that is how I see it, and imagine this is the 'controversy'.

There is probably a way to see who the retweet came from though. That would be to go to 'each' of the peoples you follow page and search through their page to see if they retweeted a message from from '1handle' or Roger Ebert. If you have 300 people you follow that could be daunting, even more daunting if you check twitter a little infrequently, or if the people you follow, and the person who retweeted it -- tweets a lot.

2. With a little more research it appears that one thing people are annoyed with...

...is that now where you retweet, you cannot add a comment to the tweet.

And it shows the icon of the person you retweeted, not yours.

3. yes but you could still retweet the old way, I think

where in the tweet box you: ' RT @1handle says this {link} about Limbaugh's anal cyst is funny. '

That was the old way. It shows your icon as the tweeter and -RT @1handle- signifies that 1handle was the originator of the link. To do all that takes extra typing and some cut & paste. The new way can be done from the link in the lower right of the tweet you want to retweet. New way is quicker and dirtier if you are wanting to throw out memes and don't need credit, I guess. is the way I see it.

4. I don't get it either

then again I use Tweet Deck for Twitter and RTs are very easy.

6. your retweets from the last hour or so show

the icon of the originator, but down below it does say it was retweeted by you, Obviously Tweetdeck does that for you, but i get retweets from others that do not say who retweeted, so they must not be using tweetdeck. I use power twitter mostly, not sure what it does on the receiving end...don't care too much. Interesting to know there is 'controversy' over it, I guess.

7. I can't get any of my tweets to show up on trends

For example if someone writes a trend #nowplaying... and I use the #nowplaying in my tweets they don't show up at all. I have seen a number of people posting elsewhere that they have the same problem. The only one who sees my posts are those who follow me.

8. It's more difficult to see who's re-tweeted your stuff

That's the main issue that I have with it.

Also, if you want to add comments or hashtags you have to ReTweet the old way.
