Am I the only one who thought "The Lovely Bones" (the book) sucked?

With the film version of this story coming out in a couple weeks, I couldn't help but think about when the book was first released and received with large levels of hype and critical acclaim.

I thought it was a trite story filled with terrible writing. I couldn't understand for the life of me why it was so popular. In my opinion The Da Vinci Code was better than The Lovely Bones.

Although Peter Jackson is directing the film, I'm not anticipating it being a great work of art.

1. I didn't even read it because I thought it looked so odd and uninteresting.

Many friends raved about it, but I never had any interest in reading it.

2. It started off strong and got weaker and weaker. Bad ending.

It was like the author just ran out of steam. Totally overrated.

forgettable is the only word to describe it for me. Not good, not terribly bad. Just forgettable.

9. I'm a huge mystery fan, but the descriptions of this one failed to grab me

And I like fairly sophisticated mystery writers, too, such as Ian Rankin, Sara Paretsky, and Reginald Hill.

The real mystery is why this book became a critical and popular success.
