who likes German style board games?
Things like Carcassonne, Puerto Rico (my favourite), and Settlers of Cataan?

2. Avalon Hill ROCKED
I've got a couple. My dream is to own the original Civilization. Used to play that all the time in college. I've got an old Starship Troopers.

My pride and joy is the 1963 edition Risk I got for Mithrasmas a few years ago. It's got the wooden pieces.

8. I have a bunch of Avalon Hill games
and like you, played them in college. D-Day, Panzerblitz, Squad Leader, Arab-Israeli Wars and Tactics:

Then I got into Go.

4. Nope
Grognard/Wargames are pretty different from German-style games. Still fun though.

I once had a boss who was a Navy Lt. Col. - we didn't have all that much in common, but we still managed to bond somewhat over an interest in Napoleonic-Era history, and Avalon Hill wargames.

3. I brought them up in a recent thread about board games.
Here

Never played Puerto Rico, but my wife and I love Carcassonne. Not that fond of Settlers for some reason.

My current favorite is probably Bohnanza. The theme (planting beans) seems really lame, but the gameplay is great, and it has a good pace as long as you don't let people get bogged down in negotiating trades.

5. We used to play the "Settlers" all the time
when it came out, even had some of the extras.

Over Christmas we played a couple new games "Pillars of th Earth" and "Around the world in 80 days" :)

And yes, I am German and can get all the games without problems ;)

6. A friend of mine is obsessed so we always play them at his house.
We just played Dixit earlier tonight (it's French, actually) and it's totally fun. Kind of reminds me of Apples to Apples, but it's all visual.

7. My husband and I are big fans...
we have a great local game store in Delaware. We enjoy the Ticket to Ride series, Carcassone, 1960: The Making of the President, Race for the Galaxy, Power Grid etc...

10. I desperately want
Ticket to Ride and Power Grid. We've played Transamerica, which is a fairly simple but fun train game.
