If You Have Cablevision, Say Goodbye To The Food Network
turned it on this morning and its no longer there. Says some provider pulled it due to haggling over...something. But no more Food Network or Home and Garden Network.

1. Not much of a loss. Food Network has just become a network of competitions
with not much emphasis on cooking. HGTV never really held much interest for me, other than to give my wife decorating ideas.

2. I love Diners, Drive Ins and Dives
seriously, it makes me want to open one of those one day.

3. I watch that once every two or three months. That and unwrapped,
which is really a promo for junk food companies. Used to watch Alton Brown, but he has gotten a bit stale.

4. Won't miss it that much, but this is the tip of the iceberg...
Cablevision is apparently paying FN way less than a buck a subscriber, but pays other similar providers more.

FN says screw it-- pay them what they're worth or they pack up and go.

At the same time, Fox is battling with Time-Warner cable over money. TW is paying them jack and they are pulling out if they don't get a better deal.

"Fox," you say? Yeah, the Fox that's Channel 5 over the air in NYC and carries sports, Simpson's, American Idol and also a dozen or so other shows and cable channels that a lot of people here say they're too tasteful self-important to watch but probably watch anyway.

It's all about money, so get your wallets out or learn to love Stooges reruns all the time.

(And don't bet on Hulu or network streaming to satisfy your TV Jones-- when they got you by the shorthairs, they will squeeze)

9. No, but you can always find a torrent somewhere
;)

However, people may have to use that little thing called an "antenna" to pick up their local channel. Since all broadcast TV is digital now, it doesn't take much of an antenna to receive them and their alternate channels if they have them (like PBS stations do...)

5. I'm very happy with Comcast.
We get all those channels with a box, including MSNBC, FOOD, HGTV. My boyfriend has Direct TV, and he doesn't get any of those channels (MSNBC, HGTV, and a few others that I watch often) under his current package.

7. You must have a different
pay package than him. He seemed to not get several channels on the direct TV Box TV. Odd.

8. I have the package that is the second one up...
none of the movies or some premium channels, like Smithsonian, (which I'd love to have)...but I don't think MSNBC was in the Basic package...

11. I'm not sure of the price, but I don't think the upgrade is more...
than $9-10 to get some better channels. I have BBCAmerica, History International, National Geographic and a few others that I watch pretty regularly. It's worth the upgrade in my opinion...:hi:
