Disturbing ad: Cat Emery
This is another one of those "AsSeenOnTV" products. It's a cat-scratching "emery board" so you never have to cut your cat's claws again. Whey they show the lady struggling to cut her kitteh's claws, and the (fake) cat howl and the announcer saying that it hurts your cat's paws, it makes me

1. It only hurts the cat if you do it wrong.

BTW that cat "emery board" is nothing more than corrugated cardboard. All it does is keep the cat's claws SHARP. It doesn't sand them down like an emery board would.

5. But it costs TWICE as much on TV, so it must be better.
I loved the illustration of how to cut the quick rather than do a proper nail trim. :spray:

8. Yeah, it reminds me of those stupid ab machine commercials
You know the ones...they claim the pricey gadget is better than doing crunches, while showing some woman improperly doing a crunch. Do your crunches with correct form and you won't need the stupid ab machine.

Meanwhile, I think the Emery Cat may be more than corrugated cardboard. It looks to me like the cardboard is coated with some sort of gritty substance, hence the "emery" part of it. It might not be such a horrible product, actually. Especially if you have a kitty who doesn't like having their claws trimmed. The plain, old cardboard ones are great. I also bought a woven sisal mat that I let my cat use as a scratcher. It doubles as my front door mat. Cheaper than the scratching mats at the PetSmart. :-)

2. "It's just an ad...It's just an ad...."
When I trim my Raphael's claws, I'm careful to avoid the little red stripe called the "quick." Also, he's always very good about it because he gets a TUNA TREAT afterwards! :9

3. that commercial makes me squirm, too -- when they show the
image of the claw being cut back to the quick - OW! My stomach churns.

4. ...and the product looks like just another (horizontal) scratching post.
Since its use is voluntary, I don't get how the pictured cats aren't sharpening their claws.

6. phfffft!
I never cut their claws, and I have the scars to prove it.

seriously, I actually never knew that you were supposed to cut them until recently,
I just figured that's what the furniture was for.

7. I have a black Kitteh--a fat, beautiful Bombay. You can't even see the quick on her nails.
She hates to be clipped, but I've learned to do it fast and never to cut her du claw. Usually, I only cut her front nails, which I originally did because she still went outdoors. Now she's living with my dad to keep him company since my mom died, and she doesn't go out at all. But I still only clip the front claws, she doesn't flay us with her back ones.

That cat emory sounds like another gimicky, crap piece of rubbish you're just gonna spend 20 dollars on, then throw in the back of the closet. Get a good set of clippers instead!

10. We've had one of those for years....
It's just corrugated cardboard.
Save your money and put some on your wall.
