4. Yup. We like to say that it keeps out the riffraff.

But it's only -6 here right now, so we're relatively more wussy.

14. Is it true that North Dakota wants to change its name
because they feel that the "North" prefix gives people the impression that it must get cold up there?

I think I saw it on a West Wing.

21. Just googled it
Found this Dave Barry piece

In contrast, SOUTH Dakota is universally believed to be a tropical paradise with palm trees swaying on surf-kissed beaches. Millions of tourists, lured by the word "South, " flock to South Dakota every winter, often wearing nothing but skimpy bathing suits. Within hours, most of them die and become covered with snow, not to be found until spring, when they cause a major headache for South Dakota's farmers by clogging up the cultivating machines.

11. Coming from Iowa, now Vermont
I can tell you that the wind never blows here like it does on the plains.
We can get cold here 20-30 below some winters, but never the wind.
I do not miss it.

12. It's pretty warm up here in Anchorage.
13 tonight, with beautiful clear skies, patchy fog. We had that cold weather last January like you're having. You just have to layer up and tough it out.

The weather has been cold or cool for over a month.

No warm weather here.

I like it.

Our poor old buildings couldn't stand up the type of cold y'all have.

When I saw a mention of windchill of -68F in Resolute, I decided I was going to consider -20 windchills to be toasty.
