A couple years ago I went back to go to the Power Center. Nothing had changed. Well, very little had.

4. Agreed. Most modern routers automagically help you set this up, but use WPA.

WPA is at least secure enough to keep out the amateurs, and will ensure that other people are freeloading on your Internet connection or snooping on your traffic.

5. Additionally: limit the number of IPs given out from dhcp to 1 more than you expect to use...

That one more is in case a friend comes over or something.

Also, restricting access to specific mac addys is good too.

6. That's awesome. Wireless is a great tool to have.

Just remember to clone the subnet mask before you release the TCIP client node or you could end up with DHCP buffer underload or even a recursive MAC addy.

Also make sure your IP is synched to the correct timezone.
