Have you ever had a song dedicated to you, by a friend,
after a night of drinking?

I did once.

It was this one:

Billy Joel - Big Shot

Funny the things we remember, sometimes, late at night...

1. When I worked at Berklee College of Music, a friend wrote a song
Edited on Sun Jan-03-10 01:53 AM by crim son
for me after a night of drinking. He dropped by the tape a couple days later, and then gave me a copy of the "fully produced" product after he'd taken it to a studio, etc. The original version I still have on tape and it was beautiful. It was called "Spiritual Journey." We kissed in front of Tower Records at about 3:00 a.m. (Boston).

Nothing came of it except a sweet song.
On edit: he was a musician working at Berklee, which is why I even mentioned that.

4. Naw. It's every girl's dream to have a man write a song about her.
I'm going to go lie in bed now, with my eyes closed, pretending to be asleep. Nite.

5. My dear Haole Girl...
I have never had that experience, alas.

Sounds like a pretty special experience...

And I hear you about what we remember, late at night...

Especially when I'm tired, as I am now.

7. On my release from The Big House
Winter 1980-81. I'd recently returned to my small hometown in Michigan
after having been gone for about eight years, the majority of them in
the Army. Got a job tending bar in a live rock-and-roll joint. One early
evening before work, I was arrested in a case of mistaken identity. The
bar owner sent two waitresses with enough bail money that we could have
gone to Europe if we'd wanted. The mistake was cleared up within hours
and they simply released me around 9 PM. Slipping into the waiting room,
I told the women that I had escaped and for them to hurry up before I
was missed. They followed me outside, pleading with me that it just was
not worth it. I told them quickly that I'd been teasing and we headed
for the bar.
.
There, I was set up. When I walked in, a beer was thrust in my hand, and
several hundred customers raised their glasses to me and cheered as the
band,on a prearranged signal, broke into "Jailhouse Rock" (the "dedication"
part of this story).
,
I was given the night off and they dragged an easy chair from the back
to a place of honor. I drank for free, all the waitresses pampered me and
fawned over me and flirted with me both delightfully and ferociously all
night long. And that's all I have to say about that.
.
With that as my karma, I was more than willing to be "arrested" every
single day for the rest of my life. More often than that, if necessary.

9. I have a similar story.
I was with some friends in a band that was playing in a little bar in a little podunk town. We were outside on break smoking a joint and a couple of cops walked up, plain clothes. I was arrested for possession of 1/2 an ounce, which back in those days was a misdemeanor. The Barney Fife's took me to the courthouse, never put me in a cell, just gave me silly lectures fit for Reefer Madness. My friends came down and bailed me out, after being told no one who was not sober could do so, and they only sniffed everyone's breath to make sure, yeah right! LOL

Anyway, we got back to the bar and the band played Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak in my honor.

That's my one and only arrest story. Welcome to DU. :hi:

Bonnie Raitt also has a good version.

11. We were up at the now defunct Konocti Harbor
and Doug opened for Smokey Robinson. It was about a week after we ran off and Smokey sang his wedding song to us. All the blue haired ladies in the audience were in tears. Kind of neat. His eyes are really, really BLUE. lol
