Poll question: DU Stylists - a debate: New pair of jeans, or new pair of black or navy cords?
I got a gift certificate for the holidays and would love to buy a new pair of casual pants, but not so casual that I couldn't wear them out in the evenings if the occasion arose (I'm probably kidding myself - we live a very quiet lifestyle - but still, hope springs eternal).

So, a new pair of very dark blue, plain and simple (no embellishments, rips, feathered coloring, jazzy pockets) bootcut jeans?

Or a new pair of black (or super dark navy) bootcut cords? My concern about dark cords is lint pick-up. I have six cats, and am afraid I'd look like I was permanently orange-and-white furred.

Wish I could buy both, and maybe with sales I can, but if I can only get one pair, what do I choose? And why? :hi:

2. yeah, I was going to go for the cords, and then a little bell went off
causing me to reconsider: Six cats, four of whom have light fur? Ummm... maybe I should rethink the whole idea :)

5. thanks, tainted chimp!
I hope for some nice evenings, too -- we're moving from a tiny, fundie southern town back to our old stomping grounds (northern Virginia) -- more opportunity for fun things to do after 6pm.

4. i'd go for jeans
not just because of the cat fur issue, but also because i'd be afraid that my pants would catch fire at the thighs while walking ;)

7. jeans!, but with both, it is really all about the fabric.
some of the cheaper types are made out of really thin material, which never really looks good after a few washing, The seat and knees bag out.

Try the quality fabric test, take a handful of fabric and scrunch it up in your hand and count slowly to 20. Release your hand and see how the fabric bounces back. Obviously the quicker the fabric releases, the better quality it is. Retail clerks hate me. :) I do this for all purchases, apparel and material, (I sew).

As for my jeans pick, it is just a matter of my personal preference.

9. Thanks for the tip -- I want to find some that have some spandex / give
in them, just for fit and comfort.

I tend not to buy clothes unless I know the material is of good quality, OR it's just a quick filler piece that I don't intend to have last forever (like white t-shirts...) I haven't been able to buy anything for a while and the 'better quality' clothes I bought when I did have more cash have really served me well.

8. Jeans if they're sturdy.
Especially if you have cats. Much easier to care for; especially since modern cordoroy tends to wear out around the seat and knees much quicker than you expect - usually within 4 - 6 months. But check your jean weight - or that too will wear out just as quickly.
I've seen too many jeans that are basically light canvas shirt material weight(the kidlet likes Anchor Blue and they have just a bit more weight as tee-shirt) instead of at least medium canvas weight (about the same thickness as a good flannel shirt) like you would get at, say, Sears in their sportswear section. Levis and Wranglers tend to be a medium/heavy weight and better for work jeans.

Best pants we've found recently are at Goodwill.

10. Hmm, just checked Goodwill yesterday and unfortunately didn't
find anything I liked... a lot of the ladies' jeans / pants have shorter inseams and I need to have an inseam of at least 33 b/c I wear low heels a lot and I HATE any indication of highwater pants...

But I agree - I don't want the super-thin, easy-tear tissue weight denim, I want real denim with a hint of stretch...

11. Jeans. Jeans go well with everything.
And the cat hair will be supernaturally attracted to your cords.

16. I have two pair of cords - bright, hot pink and one pair of light gray --
but neither one really show the cat fur. I'm thinking that dark cords will.

12. Black cords --dress up or down with sequins or belted sweater.
Surely you must have dark blue bootcut jeans?

And get a lint pick/up roller to have handy to get rid of the cat fur! You can find
them almost anywhere.

14. nope. Haven't worn jeans much in the last few years -- I have
an older pair of boot cut jeans, faded, and a pair of dark trouser-cut jeans, but I'd like a pair of 'classic' dark jeans.

21. In that case I'd add the dark bootcut jeans and look for the black cords when they go on sale.
