I am addicted to watching the West Wing, which in itself wouldnt be too bad
but now, i am getting salient info on Bill Clintons presidency confused with info on Bartletts presidency!

that is all.

1. I never had any interest in that show though I am a political
Edited on Mon Jan-04-10 05:53 PM by jonnyblitz
junkie. I would rather watch a bunch of vampires having sex with humans or a Che or Castro miniseries perhaps.

I figured the West Wing was based on a Clinton type which would be a complete snooze-fest for me.

2. it is based on clinton but has a lot of interesting political drama
and honestly, i can see how every good idea eventually ends up as mediocre legislation

7. I'm not a Clinton fan
Edited on Mon Jan-04-10 10:03 PM by hippywife
but that show was the savviest drama with the fastest moving and sharpest dialogue there has ever been. You have to be on your toes to keep up sometimes. And some of the best moments were the best in the entire history of TV. Really, you are totally missing out.

Edited to add: I did lose interest the last couple of seasons, it just wasn't the same.

:hi:

4. I was addicted the first few seasons, but gradually lost interest.
Is it being repeated somewhere? I would give it another spin as it was far better than anything that is on today.

5. Was it Season Five? The end of Season Four saw the departure of Aaron Sorkin, who
contributes some of the best writing ever featured on TV. When he had an off-day, it could be cringingly bad ("I serve at the pleasure of the President" x 4! etc...), but when he was on his game, the writing soared higher than an eagle can fly.

Seasons Five through Seven consisted of mediocre, plot-driven drama.

For me, The West Wing ends with Season Four. And it's so sad. Zoe out there, kidnapped...alone...

8. Could be--- I agree the show went downhill over its later seasons.
I remember hating that Ainsley Hayes character and couldn't stand Mary-Louise Parker's mumbling and terrible diction. She is one of the main reasons I stopped watching.

I did watch some of the final year just because it was the final year.

16. I'm getting kind of burned out on TWW.
And I have all the seasons on DVD. I'm tiring of Sorkin's rapier-wit, lightning-quick repartee and banter and the overall gosh-darned earnestness that the characters all seem to have.

You're right in that the series wasn't the same past Season 4. It slowly was turning into another soap opera toward the end (most of the episode about Leo's funeral, sadly and gallingly, was a "where can we hsve sex tonight" subplot with Josh, Donna, CJ, and Danny) s, so I'm glad it ended when it did. But I think that the Santos campaign story arcs were generally well done, and I can still watch those without the teeth beginning to grind halfway through an episode.

I wonder how long Bravo has reairing rights to it. It's been on that network for four or five years now, before the series went off on NBC.

28. I think it went from the greatest show of all time to the best show on TV
Season 5 was a down year, which is still quite good. But I think it really picked back up with the campaign.

9. Absolutely loved that show the first 3 seasons
The pilot episode hooked me right away, especially the scene where Bartlett rips that christian right-wing wacko a new one. He was my president when Bush stole the election.

17. How is the packaging for that?
I read a review on Amazon and someone said the packaging was so poorly designed that you risked scratching the discs trying to get them out.

Contrary to what I said upthread, I would be interested in getting the complete set as my single-season discs wear out.

15. Whenever there's no good sports, Iron Chef, or Olbermann
you'll find a West Wing DVD in my player.

In fact, my whole family quotes episodes all the time.

20. I guess I must be a rarity that actually likes the last two seasons
Sure the 5th season sucked big time, but I thoroughly enjoy the 6th and 7th "Campaign" seasons. But then I've worked on a bunch of campaigns, so I thought it was great seeing essentially a TV show on the inner workings of a campaign. I loved it. :D

have you watched Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip? Also written by Sorkin, VERY sadly only lasted one season. Awesome show.
