Study Says Women With Mate Get Heavier
It is widely known that women tend to gain weight after giving birth, but now a large study has found evidence that even among childless women, those who live with a mate put on more pounds than those who live without one.

The differences, the scientists found, were stark.

After adjusting for other variables, the 10-year weight gain for an average 140-pound woman was 20 pounds if she had a baby and a partner, 15 if she had a partner but no baby, and only 11 pounds if she was childless with no partner. The number of women with a baby but no partner was too small to draw statistically significant conclusions.

1. Duh.
After the minister said "You may kiss the bride"...

I turned to my husband and whispered...."Thank God, now I can let myself go!"

Wedding shot was PRICELESS!

8. Oh, yeah. That's what we all had in mind.
>"Thank God, now I can let myself go!"<

I wish I could express how frustrated I am with the entire idea that those of us who are larger than we were when we got married just "let ourselves go".

19. heck no!
I got an appointment for my hearing aids this week...but the free eyeglass place only takes appointments 2 hours a day..and your cell battery will die before you get through on hold.

This week after my hearing test,I am going to go in in person to make my eye appointment.

We've been married 36 years and she's quite a bit lighter then we got married. She's a gym rat and eats like a health freak.

14. I think both men and women gain weight when with a mate.
The fact that you have found your person means you dont have to be on the prowl, we get comfortable and content. Which leads to weight gain. Looking good for your person is important but if they love you it isnt as important to stay rock hard (Im talking about body) than if youre looking for a prospective mate.

16. I have a friend who was 140 when she got married 11 years ago
and now she is well over 200 pounds. Her husband has put on weight too, but not that much. Seems like they both let go.

I once had a discussion with a woman about wearing contact lenses and I asked her why she wore glasses now instead of contacts. Her answer: "Well, I'm married now".

23. And men don't?
Are we talking about a real gender difference here, or just aging?

24. Neither.
Not just aging - they controlled for that in the study...unmarried women did still gain weight as they aged but not as much.

However, I doubt very seriously that there is any gender difference; if they studied this effect in men, they'd likely find the same result.

25. So women (and men) who are still on the prowl stay trim?
Is that the basic conclusion?

to their married counterparts. It's all relative.

28. I would include that based on 60 years of observation.
I am sure I will get flamed for this, but this is what I have observed. Almost without exception, Brides for their first marriage, are at their most hot on their wedding day. They are tanned, buffed and fit. They look great! Hotter than hot!

That lasts for about a year. They got their man and now the makeup can go, the housecleaning can go, the body can go and, if you have kids, it can go a lot faster.

I often tell my grandsons to go to the mall and check out the women who are hanging around the kiddie section of the mal with all the toys. Do they see any hotties there? Anyone they might be interested in? NO, of course not! The entire section is populated by fat chicks who no longer bother to try to make themselves attractive because they are married and have kids and are too busy.

This phase lasts about five years. The guys get tired of coming home to ugly, fat chicks when what they married was the hottest of the hot!

The guys start fooling around.

This lasts about 5 years. The guys start entering their 30's. The stomach starts to lose the washboard and droop. The hair starts to recede and turn gray. The girls start fooling around.

Several divorces later, If you're lucky, you will end up with someone who accepts you, with all your faults just as much as you accept them.

Of course, by then you will be old and not physically attractive, but by then you will have gotten over all of that and just be happy that you have someone to talk to..

26. In other news...
The female cane toad can pump herself up to mega-size to throw off smaller males striving to mate with her, Australian biologists reported on Wednesday.

29. hmmmmmmmm....
well I know that when I left the ex-husband, I lost a substantial amount of weight (like 20 pounds and I wasn't that big to begin with), but I think it was from happiness, no more filling the void with Java Chip at 3 am :P
