i am in the market for a new bed.

1. We have a kingsized waterbed..

Made here in cali. Heavy oak with bookcase headboard. Both Alley and I slept in waterbeds most our lives. They are very comfortable in any season.

It's not just the comfort for me, though that's a big part of it - it's that it can be wiped clean in a way a regular mattress can never be. I'm badly allergic to dust mites, when I sleep on a regular mattress I'm so congested it feels like the entire mattress is shoved right up my nose.

I've had the waterbed for about 15 years - I got it used for less than $100 - a great investment. (It saved me.) We finally broke down this year and got a new mattress and liner, figuring the old one was about due to start leaking. I was shocked at how cheap the replacement was, considering what actual mattresses cost.

2. It was from my grandparents and I hate it (except it is a king and it's HUGH!!11!!!)

I can store all kinds of laundry and crap on it!

I want a platform bed with some rodent/dust proof storage in the bottom. WTF is the point of that box spring thing????? Give me a thick foam pad or something on a piece of plywood. No place in the rest of the world I have been to wastes so much freaking space on a sleeping pad.

3. I decided to cowboy up for a good bed

I spent the big dough and got one from Sovn European Sleep Systems. http://sovn.com/ It's local to me but you could probably find something similar. It's a slat-based bed instead of a box spring and it uses a latex mattress. It is sooooo comfy and will last a long time. Totally worth the money.

4. We got a platform bed from West Elm. We love it.

It's very simple, and we made our own tufted headboard to coordinate. Our bedding is mostly gray, with some blue and some brown. The headboard is a gorgeous nubby gray fabric with big fabric covered buttons providing the tufting. It kinda looks like a big gray cracker! :)

5. I've got a memory foam bed. The only problem...

is that now every other bed might as well be a bed of nails. Seriously, I swear by the stuff. Most comfortable bed I've ever had.

6. Have a great Englander mattress with a Memory Foam Topper.

I could never go back to a bed without the topper. Off hand I don't remember whether mine is 2 or 3 inches but it is the best thing for by back. If you toss around, it is great for your companion too. You can hardly feel it if someone else moves. Mine does not get too warm either.

You have to be careful with Memory Foam to make sure you get the real stuff (Visco Elastic), not foam rubber.

We bought a Heavenly Bed. The Westin Hotels have them in all their rooms. They're not cheap, but it is the nicest bed I have ever slept in.

We love it.

They're on sale right now. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Mattress is a Serta Perfect Sleeper.

Just got the mattress about 6 months ago and it was the best money I've ever spent. It's like sleeping on a cloud. The bed is a platform bed, so I just got the mattress, no box springs. Doesn't matter, it's still awesome.

Sealy Posturepedic, conventional box spring. It's worn out from my hubby and I using it for a trampoline :evilgrin: for the last fifteen years, since our relationship started in 1994.

It's saggy, so I got a four inch thick memory foam no-name topper from overstock.com to salvage it. That helps a lot. The only thing I don't like about the memory foam is that it retains your body heat which is not fun in the summer. Not sure what I would get to replace it.

Very plain with a rolled back edge at the top, somewhat like a sleigh bed.
I don't like foot boards, I kick them. I tend to sleep on my back or side and scooch down in the bed so my feet are near the end and I use a pillow under my knees.

The memory foam pillows are great for neck support.

26. My wife and I were just telling my son about how when we were first married we had a futon.

We rolled it up every morning to make room in the bedroom, since the one bedroom we had in our apartment doubled as an office.

We didn't tell my son of course, about all the fun we had with that futon.

27. Tempur-pedic, Grand bed. I love it!

Decided I needed a really good bed after a neck injury about a year and 1/2 ago. It was very expensive, but I have no regrets. Only complaint is during the summer, since it can be a little warm for Texas in the summertime. But I still wouldn't trade it for any other bed.

29. We have a GIANT COLOSSAL BED

When we met, my wife had a nice platform bed with an excellent (King Koil x-firm pillowtop) queen size mattress. We are both large people, used to sleeping in a queen bed, tossing and turning..... The solution we came up with works well for us. tho.
We expanded the platform with plywood, and turned the queen mattress sideways. Then we bought a long single mattress, about the same thickness as the queensize. It's a little bigger than a king, but a king comforter.bedspread works OK.
Most comfortable bed either of us ever had.

Yes, it was expensive, but it's still like brand new even after 6 years. It has a different feel altogether and took us about a week to get used to. It is a rather soft mattress when you first settle down into it and then, as it conforms to your contours, it becomes firm. My wife says it was perfect for her while pregnant.

Warning though, it does NOT provide you with any bounce, if that's an essential part of your non-sleep bed activity. :evilgrin:

It's an Ikea platform bed. It was inexpensive, but it does what it is supposed to do. With no posts, it is better suited for our smallish bedroom than a traditional bed with posts and box spring.

I'm glad to have the one I do. It's the same bedroom suite my granparents had when they first married 76 years ago. Even though it wasn't really very high end furniture at the time, it's beautiful dark wood and I really treasure it. Especially since I no longer have either one of them.
